Rejecting God

It's no secret to anyone who has been reading my blog these past ten months that my uncle's death has sent me into a crisis of faith. I am not really sure if "crisis" is the right word because it isn't like I am struggling to believe in God, His Goodness or that everything that happens in my life will help save me, even the suffering because God has to power to do that. I know all of these things. So what is my problem? I am not sure but I had a little bit of an aha moment about what my "crisis" … [Read more...]

So I lied to Ya’ll

Awhile back I wrote a blog post saying that I have no parenting advice. Well, I lied. I know that new parents and parents with small kids are like 20 year olds & engaged couples who think they know everything and don't need unsolicited advice but after my week training with seven 19-23 year olds, I'm gonna dish some out anyway.Let your kids fail. Stop setting such high standards for them and expecting them to never fail at things. Let them figure things out for themselves and fail. And … [Read more...]

Absent Fathers

A few weeks ago I sat in child support court for almost an entire day and let me tell you, it was a very ugly place to be. There was anger, pain and brokenness all around me. I have been a single mother, I have gotten child support from two men for my kids and I am married to a man who has been screwed over by his ex-wife for child support by lying about the amount she has gotten from him. All that is to say that I have been on every side of this issue. When I looked around at the men though, … [Read more...]

Life: the Gift that Bites You in the Ass

You know how I said that I used to think I knew everything about parenting? Well, this is something that I've been thinking about a lot lately because I see people online all the time talking about how shitty other parents are. Whether it be about vaccines (oh lawd I said that word on my blog, I'm sure there will be a party of crazy in my combox later), food choices, parenting styles, spanking, or any other of the million things that we think we have to have an opinion about, there is always … [Read more...]

What I’ve Learned about Parenting

I have been a mother since I was 16 years old. I have given birth to four kids, miscarried one child and been the step-mother to three. I now have two grandchildren and I'm almost 40 years old. This is what I have learned about mothering/parenting children: I have no effing clue what I'm doing. There are a lot of factors that made me think I was a horrible mother. I did a lot of things that weren't things responsible parents do, like marry a man I only knew for two weeks and have kids with … [Read more...]

Lady Gaga, a Cure for the Mondays

I woke up this morning with a picture of Lady Gaga and a priest and a caption where she mentioned the Eucharist being the food given to us from God. I was sure that I was still asleep or reading it wrong. But nope, it's true, Lady Gaga goes to Mass, says the word Eucharist and loves her priest. It was the best post I've read in a really long time. This Mother's Day I spent the day worrying about my oldest son who is having a hard time with the death of my uncle and left the Church a long time … [Read more...]

Today’s Reason for Not Reading Amoris Laetitia

So you know how the Pope released a document about how to love each other in a family and stuff? Well, you know how I've been trying to read it since the minute that it was published? I still haven't.My uncle is in ICU so I was with him for a few days, then when I got back my oldest son went to go see him so I watched his kids while he went. I have no clue how you ladies with small kids get anything done because all I could do was keep them alive, fed and entertained. I never really stayed … [Read more...]

I need to Know how to Love Jackwagons

I had great plans on how exactly Friday morning was going to go down. Pope Francis was dropping an exhortation and I was going to be one of the first people to read it (well, one of the first among us bloggers who don't get to read it before it is open to the public) and it was going to be great. I love papal documents.  I was so excited, like a kid on Christmas morning. I have a whole system in place and I can't sleep the night before, it's awesome. Then my uncle got sick and was put in ICU … [Read more...]

Inspired to Keep Trying

The Real O’Neals is a show on ABC about an Irish Catholic family that is kind of a mess. I have read all over Catholic social media about how this show mocks the Catholic faith and how it’s offensive. I watched the pilot episode and wasn’t offended but I thought maybe I had missed something so I watched both episodes this past week. I’m still not offended.First, I don’t understand the idea of being offended by a show if you don’t watch it. That makes zero sense to me. I get watc … [Read more...]

7 Quick Takes Friday: Baby Watch Edition

1. Well, it's 3pm and I've been trying to write this post since 8am, that should give you an idea of how excited I am today! Why? Because my second grand-baby is being born today! YEY!! I'm so excited. I love being a grandmother. My first grand-baby, Aaliyah, is the love of my life. I love her so much. She puts me in a good mood no matter what else is going on in the world. She is 2 1/2 now so she is talking a lot and is hilarious! She is the love of my life.2. My son's girlfriend was … [Read more...]
