Waiting

A few weeks ago I went deer hunting for the first time in my entire life. I grew up in the country, in a town that is full of city folk visiting deer leases every fall to try and shoot themselves a trophy buck to mount on their wall. I hated it when I was a kid thanks to the movie Bambi. I also hated it because one year I ran out the front door of my uncle's house to see three deer hung upside down with their insides hanging out. I yelled at everyone that they killed Santa's reindeer! That is … [Read more...]

The Election, Failure and Where to Go From Here

It has been a crazy 48 hours since the election results came in and Donald Trump was announced as our president-elect. I did not see this coming. I voted for Hillary Clinton, not because I wanted her to win but because I was sure she was better for the job and was going to win anyway. I considered it the best way to stand against what Trump stood for. I was prepared to fight against what she would come with. I was not prepared for him to win.Since then I have failed. I have failed as a … [Read more...]

I am Pro-Life, I voted for Hillary

My original plan for today was to drink and wait for Jesus. I was not going to vote. That quickly became my life plan and my election day plan was to go to adoration and wait for God to send me an angel if He wanted me to vote for either of these two crazy people and if He didn't then I was going to write in a third party guy. After that I was going to go buy a bottle and start drinking. I wasn't wrestling with that decision but I wasn't happy about it. This is America, we celebrate the right to … [Read more...]

What do I know? What is Real?

I have an amazing therapist. In the  three and a half years that I have been seeing her, she has helped to recognize  when my scared little girl self is trying to convince me that nobody loves because I am unworthy of being loved and tell her to go take a nap. When I first started seeing her it was because my husband and I were on the verge of divorce. Actually it was worse than divorce, it was war. We were in a cycle of revenge and getting back at each other while both trying to get … [Read more...]

When God Dedicates Songs to You

Today I was sitting in the car with my two youngest sons and this song came on the radio that we all love, it’s one of our favorite songs as a family, and I thought about when I first heard that song and how exactly it became an anthem in the lives of my kids.My youngest child was born in 2001 when I worked at Hooters. I spent the first month of her life going from the NICU to my mom’s house to care for my other three children because she was a preemie. I was really tired and driving only a f … [Read more...]

In the Wake of The World’s Tragedies

I have been working almost every day for the last few weeks. My days off are full of a million things to do, so I haven't really been able to keep up with all the internet happenings. News goes really fast in the online world. A week is like a year and news blows up, everyone discusses it, we decide what we are pissed about and then lament about it for days. Then we are off to the next thing. I don't know if this is exclusive to Catholic online life or if it goes for … [Read more...]

Lawd, This Election

I am not exactly sure how the GOP managed to nominate the one person in the entire country who makes Hillary Clinton look good, but they did. I've been watching Trump go after the father of a fallen soldier in shock. While Hillary is a bit dismissive of the mother of the man killed in Benghazi, her dismissiveness seems empathetic compared to Trump's blatant insults to the parents who lost their son in combat about their character and insulting their faith (remember when Trump was whining about … [Read more...]

When God Laughs

I am off of work today after getting up at 6am since last Sunday for training. Every single day. I know this isn't a big deal for a lot of women who do this daily and blog and raise kids and are pregnant, but it's a big deal for me because I haven't done anything but write and cook dinner for that last 8 years.I was so ready to sit in bed and drink my coffee while watching the news until I was ready to get up to go get breakfast tacos with my husband (who I haven't really seen all week). My … [Read more...]

Book Review: Writing my Wrongs by Shaka Senghor

In the pages of Shaka Senghor’s memoir, Writing my Wrongs, I found one theme: the dignity of the human person. That is the theme to everything when you look at Catholic Social Teaching. Easter Season is the perfect time to be reminded of that.Shaka writes about his childhood and his mother’s spankings along with the divorce of his parents and how that impacted his life. At 14 he began selling drugs after running away from home and at 17 was shot. At 19 he shot and killed a man which led h … [Read more...]

Voting For Trump, Something I can’t Respect

For years I have been told that voting for the lesser evil is the way to go in elections. I can't even count how many times that I have been on the receiving end of that lecture. Now suddenly people are saying they will vote for Trump because apparently when everyone said "the lesser evil" they meant Republicans. That's not how my brain works. I am not a Republican, in fact most years I can't stand any single Republican candidate. This year was an exception because I love Rubio. I have issues … [Read more...]
