Thanks American Airlines – Anti-Vaccination Message Shot Out Of The Skies

In case you missed it on other blogs and news updates (such as the ever-dedicated Doubtful News) - a little while back, I got an alert: American Airlines have acquiesced to a 3 1/2 min AVN interview on the in-flight "Executive Report". The audio will play on 58,000 American Airline flights between July and August and the "interview" will feature in the American Way in-flight magazine. This resulted in a 2000+ signed petition (they nearly got to the goal of 2500!) over on Change.org, called … [Read more...]

Celebrate World Book Day – With The Young Atheist’s Handbook!

Now, I just got back from a rather big meeting about a series of conferences I'm doing at the end of the week, and one thing I know I'll be relying on is a book in the bath every night, in order to chill out. Um, reading it, not soaking the pages and pretending that I'm homeopathically-leeching out the ideas of de Botton. Which is why, despite the dizzying progress of digital technology (kindles, bindles, biggles and what have you - I can't be bothered), we should still acknowledge the power of … [Read more...]

I Kind Of Got Kidnapped By Richard Dawkins And Ayaan Hirsi Ali At The Global Atheist Convention

I have a problem saying "No" to people. Especially if the people I'm saying "No" to are persistent, taller, famous and I can't fire off a good reason to tell them to stay put. A good reason, like "But the bodyguards think that you're staying backstage here, and there's no backstage crew near for me to tell them what you're now going down the hallway without me unless I show you the way aren't you... ...oh dear holy hades, okay, it's this way..." ***** Backstage. The Global Atheist … [Read more...]

Tim Minchin To Star In Californication

...I can't quite believe it myself.  Minchin will play eccentric rock star Atticus Fetch, who works with Hank Moody (Duchovny) on a Broadway musical. When Hank's novel is adapted into the show A Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Fetch is recruited to write the music. In real life, Minchin recently wrote Matilda: The Musical, based on the Roald Dahl novel. The West End show, which will debut on Broadway in 2014, won a record seven Olivier Awards earlier this week. Why don't you hear from … [Read more...]

Little Kitten – How To Launch A Television Channel…

To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium we placed a big red push button on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text "Push to add drama" invited people to use the button. … [Read more...]

The Revisionaries – Creationism And Education In Texas Documentary

In Austin, Texas, fifteen people influence what is taught to the next generation of American children. Once every decade, the highly politicized Texas State Board of Education rewrites the teaching and textbook standards for its nearly 5 million schoolchildren. And when it comes to textbooks, what happens in Texas affects the nation as a whole. ...THE REVISIONARIES follows the rise and fall of some of the most controversial figures in American education through some of their most tumultuous … [Read more...]

My Drunk Kitchen: Quesadillas! (Part 1)

As always, there is NOTHING I recommend about the actions taken in this video due to the potential harm it could cause to oneself and a kitchen. Particularly the gesture with the voice. … [Read more...]

Velociraptors Vs Androids In Movies

I've been sent links to these two trailers, with an inquiry about which one I find scarier. I'm voting android, primarily because the shake-your-hand-held-camera has become so ubiquitous with horror movies that I've started taking motion-sickness tablets along with my popcorn during the previews before science fiction double-features at my local cinema. Besides, the faux-computer text uses the phrase “The survivor’s story has never been told” - so, just the monster survives, right? GO … [Read more...]
