Mr. Darcy by Marian Call

Why am I blogging about Marian Call? Well, her latest album, Something Fierce, is available on BandCamp. So, I'm popping in a plug for an artist that makes acoustically playing the typewriter a joy to listen to. Plus, she clearly knows her Jane Austen. If you haven't heard her previous album Got To Fly, with songs inspired by Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (especially the track 'I'll Still be a Geek After Nobody Thinks it's Chic (the Nerd Anthem)', which I've seen live at Dragon*Con), then you … [Read more...]

Helping Skeptics Get To QEDCon

Just a little shout-out to another project by Hayley Stevens (another? Why yes, there's Project Barnum - an interview with Hayley will be out on the TS podcast). This one is about funding to get people to the 'Question, Explore, Discover' science convention, running for its second year in 2012, from March 10-11th. She's already managed to fundraise enough to get one fellow skeptic there, so she's seeing if there's more who can be helped. From Hayley Is A Ghost: ...what if I kept the donations … [Read more...]

Which led me to think... a) I wonder why all the plants have died and the pets have fled the house? b) "At some point I really have to focus on getting a … [Read more...]

Currently in Melbourne, attending a three-day conference: VAPS 2011 Conference 'Dare to Think: Philosophy in Schools'.So far a highlight has been an opportunity to chat to Alan Saunders of ABC Radio National's Philosopher's Zone and discover that my podcasting equipment is better than his. :pThe Friday night lecture by Dr Nurin Weise was excellent - she is the curator of several exhibitions at the Melbourne Museum, such as the Mind/Body exhibition and she had some fascinating insights as to w … [Read more...]

Tim Minchin’s Storm – Now Officially Featured Online

The official 'nine minute beat' poem - Storm. As authorised by Tim Minchin, nice and clear. :) Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, December 2008.As suggested by commentator (hello!) Gib - I am re-posting the 'lyrics' (or should that be verses? It is a poem, not a song...) from the post called 'Lyrics To Tim Minchin's Storm'. Here they are again, thanks to Angry Feet Forum, as kindly written out by Tim himself. Yes, I agree - having seen his show live, catching this on the stage is not s … [Read more...]
