The Future of the Emergent Convention

Youth Specialties has just announced that it it refocusing its efforts on youth ministry and, thus, will no longer be partnering with Emergent-US in running the Emergent Convention (nor will they partner with Zondervan on the National Pastors’ Convention).

Those of us on the Emergent-US organizing team are very much in support of YS’s decision. And YS is still in support of Emergent — just today I received an invitation to speak at all three National Youth Workers’ Conventions, and I offered to help design the “Emergent Track” at the conventions.

We at Emergent also plan to move ahead with a convention-type event in the Spring of 2006. We will immediately be looking for individual contributers and partner organizations for such an event. Check the Emergent-US blog for details…

What does this meaning to the emergent publishing line at Youth Specialties. Is that going to be transferred to Zondervan without Youth Specialties or will Youth Specialties continue to be involved?

It might be good news to hear that this impacts me zero. But thanks for the word.

how do those of us on the periphery(sp?) of the emergent conversation “break”[1] in and build up the conversation and the convention? How do those of us in a non-cohort-ed/able areas of the nation build up the conversation….Random question… sorry.-Pkj

    - the publishing line is going to be discussed in coming weeks between YS, Zondervan, and emergent (and others???)- what’s next is to build a truly broad coalition of organizations that want to put on a premier emerging church event in the Spring of 2006 — those conversations have begun- you can get involved by becoming a part of the life of emergent — start a cohort, be involved in the conversations as they develop on the emergent-us blog, and come to events

This is a good thing. After attending two ys youth worker conventions and emergent ’03, I look forward to the new expression. I’m thankful that ys played an important role in getting things off the ground. I’ll be there in San Diego next week–sorry you won’t be there. Blessings with your exams.I’m trying to get a cohort going in the central valley of CA. One e-mail in reply so far.
