A cool new tool uses info from Amazon to connect a book you like with dozens of others.

I had an interesting conversation with Bruce Reyes-Chow last night. His family is trying to do half their shopping on Etsy, and half on Amazon. He said it’s hard, because they could easily get everything from Amazon, but they want to support small businesses as well.
As for me and my house, we’re getting almost everything from Amazon. How about you and your family? Are you still going to the mall, shopping on Amazon, or supporting local businesses?
So, we all had a #HipsterHoliday and a #BuyNothingFriday. But does that extend to Cyber Monday?
The new generation of Kindles shipped this week, meaning that they’re arriving on doorsteps today. If any of you receives one, I’d love to hear what you think…
Amazon made another big announcement today, one that will likely spur lots of Kindle purchases for the holiday: If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can now borrow books for a month at a time.
Amazon has already arguably put Borders out of business, and they’ve crippled Barnes & Noble. Retail bookstores offer us readers little anymore that Amazon cannot.
Now they’re aiming at the public library. I belong to mine, which has recently announced that patrons can borrow ebooks, but the process is something of a hassle. Amazon, for the cost of a Prime membership, today announced that they will be loaning books to you on your Kindle (or device with a Kindle app).
Some will think this is a troubling trend. Not me. I think it’s great. My new book (now only $2.99 on the Kindle) won’t even make it into any libraries.
What do you think?
The Church and Pomo blogged has moved to The Other Journal, which I think is a great home for it. To celebrate, they’re running a contest among commenters who suggest a new column for their regular writers. Two of the commenters will win copies of the books from their (excellent) series.
And, if you take a very brief survey on how your faith intersects with your reading habits at Media Buffs, you’ll be entered in a contest to win a Kindle. (HT: Jana Riess)
Today Amazon will debut their new tablet, the Kindle Fire. My guess is that it’s going to be quite awesome, and that it’s going to be $100 less than and iPad. Also, Amazon is likely going to throw in some goodies, like lifetime Amazon Prime with some versions. That would be pretty awesome, too.
Jana Riess interviewed me about my new book and about my adventure in self-publishing for her blog, and she’ll post the interview next week. I think I’ll follow up with some thoughts of my own on self-publishing and e-publishing next week. But, in the meantime, the today’s announcement about the Kindle Fire has inspired John Biggs at Tech Crunch to prophecy a timeline of the future of books:
Paraclete Press is having an awesome sale for a limited time: You can get my book, The Teaching of the Twelve, plus other Paraclete titles by Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, Jon Sweeney, Scot McKnight, and Peter Rollins for $.99 on the Kindle.
If you don’t have a Kindle, no worries! You can download the Kindle App on your computer or smartphone and read the book there. Of course, you can also buy a Kindle for as little as $114 — I was given one as a gift, and I love it!
Below the fold, you can see a short video about my book:
…until 3:30pm PST today. Don’t miss out!
