The Bible calls us to celebrate God’s goodness in the creation. The Christian community just celebrated Easter, which involves Jesus rising from the dead and bringing about the transformation of creaturely life. This emphasis is a continuation of the incarnation. God created the world good. The ultimate affirmation of the goodness of the creation is Christ’s incarnation. “The Word became flesh,” John 1:14 tells us.

Since this is the case, Christians should be known for celebrating the creation, including scientific exploration. Gratefully, some pastors I know encourage their congregants, including those in the sciences, to pursue their vocational interests to God’s glory. These pastors don’t see matters of the creation and matters of scientific exploration as antithetical to faith, but core to their faith.

This coming Wednesday evening April 6th from 7:00-8:30 PM, The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins will be co-hosting a forum at Beaverton Foursquare Church (13565 SW Walker Road Beaverton, OR 97005). Pastor Mark Nicklas of Beaverton Foursquare, Pastor Sharad Yadav of Bread and Wine and Pastor Jason Curtis of Sunset Presbyterian Church will be joined by others in celebrating the creation and the exploration of the sciences for the common good.

We encourage you to join us. Whether you are a pastor, scientist, or someone who simply loves the creation, you will come away with a sense of greater sense of wonder and desire to celebrate God’s handiwork.
