Jen Fulwiler and I discuss rationalization, forgiveness, and my new book! April 30, 2015

I got to talk to Jen Fulwiler, the author of Something Other Than God: How I Passionately Sought Happiness and Accidentally Found It on her SiriusXM show today.  If you’d like to tune in, Jen’s show repeats on the Catholic Channel on Thursday (today!) at 4p ET; Friday 12a and 6a (too early for me) and Saturday at 1p.

Jen and I spent most of the time talking about our approaches to petitionary prayer (why tell God something He already knows?) and Confession.  Jen talks about how the Catholic approach to self-examination helped her avoid rationalizing away her own faults.  In contrast, I learned a lot about honest self-examination through secular readings on cognitive biases (plus teaching at the Center for Applied Rationality) so I was more struck by the Catholic approach to forgiveness.

So tune in to hear us both talk about how we learned, post-conversion, to pray!

And, in the meantime, here’s what Jen had to say about my book,  Arriving at Amen, when she blurbed it:

Reading Leah Libresco’s book is like being taken on a tour of your home town by a brilliant, quirky guide who helps you see everything anew. Arriving at Amen is a delightfully refreshing read that will help any Catholic see the Faith through new eyes.

Meanwhile, I just got a full crate of my books, plus an ARC of Max Gladstone’s next book in the Craft Sequence, Last First Snow.  He’s not Catholic, but he wound up blurbing my book too and wrote:

Arriving at Amen is a wonderful and lucid preaching in geek tongues—a vivid journey through and toward Catholic faith guided by musicals, topology, Kant, mellified mummies, friends, and the Year’s Best SF.

But why is the world so cruel as to send me his new book when I’m supposed to be reserving my free time for promotion for mine?
