Discounts and Donations on my Birthday!

Discounts and Donations on my Birthday! July 21, 2015

miles of cake

Today’s my birthday!  I’m celebrating by going to the monthly DC Shape Note sing and singing things like “David’s Lamentation!”

Um, well… in a festive way.  (Maybe that was not the right song example to give)  Is “Balm in Gilead” better?

Meanwhile, for you guys, I’m pleased to announce that the ebook version of Arriving at Amen is discounted all week!

If you’ve read the book and liked it, maybe today’s a good day to give me a birthday present by getting a copy of Arriving at Amen as a surprise present for a friend you think might like it. And, if you’ve been waiting to read it, the ebook is now less than $4.

Birthdays are the day that everyone visits your facebook, and a number of my friends have been seizing that opportunity to run mini-fundraisers for effective altruist causes. I’ve liked coming across them, because they give me a chance to splurge on good works.  (There’s something nice about getting a sudden, unplanned opportunity to good — I’m trying to build up my Luke 8:43-48 reflexes/being responsive to the need of another).

If you’d like to give to the mini-fundraiser I’m doing for GiveDirectly (a cash transfer program that’s one of GiveWell’s top recommendations for effectiveness) it’s much appreciated!  But I’m mentioning it primarily in case some of you would like to run your own mini-fundraisers for charitable causes on your own birthdays (in the more intimate setting of a private facebook, not a public blog)
