It's like creationism, but from Muslims

Did you know that evolution is incompatible with the Bible the Koran? That some Christians Muslims dare to support the religion of Darwinism?

Thank Allah for the Koran, whose light of reason blazes brightly against the infidels!

(Yes, I’m being sarcastic, just in case that wasn’t clear.)

  1. Matt says:

“materialists who think that it (evolution) is a scientifically proven fact”

Gotta love misquoting and misrepresenting an important issue and then making a case based on your skewed perception of the “facts.”

  2. Joel says:

“From the time it was first put forward by Charles Darwin and right up to the present day, it has brought humanity nothing but conflict, exploitation, war, and degeneration.”

WTF!!!! Okay, but suicide bombers, planes flying into buildings, female Circumcision, general subjugation of women, beheading journalists, and clamping down on free expression are a-ok. What a complete lunatic. If that’s not the pot calling kettle black….

Ah, Harun Yahya (AKA Adnan Oktar). Nutcake. Criminal. This guy is just pathetic…

Nothing like a big fat strawman backed up with scriptural quotes to prove your point.

  5. I love how there are pictures of people bleeding and suffering, as if that makes their points more valid.

I just finished reading the first page and… wow. Blasphemous expletives come to mind to express my incredulity. ;-)

I wrote a bit yesterday about evolution and ID and said that it’s a good thing to intelligently question any and all scientific theories… with an emphasis on “intelligently.” This kind of nonsense isn’t intelligent questioning (nor is ID) and that irks me to no end.

I just bought a Qur’an last week and haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. Maybe I’ll bump that up in my “to read” queue.

Textual literalism is as much a problem in Islam as it is in Christianity.

Dan – before you sit down with the Qur’an, I recommend that you read at least one biography of Muhammad first. I really like the one written by Karen Armstrong, and attempting to read the Qur’an without any background is rather difficult.

Also, don’t expect the Qur’an to be anything like the Jewish Torah or Christian Bible. There are many topics that are discussed in the Qur’an that are also present in the Torah and the Bible, but it is usually presented in a referential form as opposed to a narrative form. It is as if Muhammad expected that his audience would already be familiar with Biblical stories as opposed to actually trying to tell those stories.

Note that the order of the chapters in the Qur’an is not chronological nor is it contextual. The arrangement seems to be from longest chapter to shortest chapter (with the exception of the first chapter). Also, there is a mixture of verses revealed in Mecca before the hijirah, verses revealed in Medina, and verses revelaed in Mecca after Muhammad took power and had control over it.

Be prepared for a sometimes-bewildering use of pronouns where the voice switches between “I” and “we” to “you” almost without warning or context.

I would also encourage you to find at least two English translations of the Qur’an so that you can better understand it. Oftentimes I have to read the same chapter (called a surah) twice, once in each version, to actually understand it.

I recommend that every skeptic, atheist, freethinker, etc. take the time to read at least part of the Qur’an. There is much in it that makes it easier to understand Muslims, but it also makes understanding Christians easier too.

Theology aside, there are indeed some beautiful phrases and passages in the Qur’an that stand out as great literature. My favorite surahs are “The Opening” (Surah 1) and “The Cow” (Surah 2).

  8. Yoav says:

Do not pursue what you have no knowledge of. Hearing, sight and hearts will all be questioned. (Qur’an, 17: 36)

Amazing isn’t it that every single religion will have a verse similar to this one telling the believers how bad it is to ask any difficult questions.
Also I liked his insistance of using the phrase Theory of evolution and fact of creation I guess it all setteled now no reason to go on arguing we can close early and go to the pub. praise God/Allah/Yahowe/ Deity of your choice.
