As you might have heard, an Oklahoma legislator tried to ban Richard Dawkins from speaking at the University of Oklahoma. He submitted this proposal to the legislature:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 52ND OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representative strongly opposes the invitation to speak on the campus of the University of Oklahoma to Richard Dawkins of Oxford University, whose published statements on the theory of evolution and opinion about those who do not believe in the theory are contrary and offensive to the views and opinions of most citizens of Oklahoma.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives encourages the University of Oklahoma to engage in an open, dignified, and fair discussion of the Darwinian theory of evolution and all other scientific theories which is the approach that a public institution should be engaged in and which represents the desire and interest of the citizens of Oklahoma.
Here was Richard Dawkins response when he spoke at the University of Oklahoma:

Regarding my suggestion in the other thread that we give Texas back to Mexico – let’s give them Oklahoma, too.
…Dawkins implies that Stork Theory is wrong….
???
Why hasn’t anyone told ME about this? I thought this was a scientifically established fact! Where the heck else WOULD babies come from! He didn’t supply any alternative explanation in his video. Stork theory MUST be correct, because it just feels right to me.
And if anyone has anything else to say about it, then I don’t want to hear about it.
(puts hands over ears. “I can’t hear you I can’t hear you…”)
LMAO!!!
Interesting article:

The Vatican backed a conference on Darwin. Guess who wasn’t invited? The Discovery Institute. Why? They wanted the conference to be rigorous science. HAAAAHAAHAHA!!!
Will Oklahoma allow other theories about the life of Jezuz?
I wish Richard Dawkins would come to Australia and spread some of that good old intelligence and openmindedness around! What a great post.
I hang my head in utter shame and embarrassment. I moved to Oklahoma years ago from the intolerant, close-minded San Francisco Bay Area several years ago to teach at the University of Oklahoma. If only I could be truly tolerant and open-minded and respectful of diversity like the fundamentalists that surround me! Perhaps a good law will set me straight and put me on the path of appreciating *both* types of music (country *and* western), *both* types of religion (baptist *and* southern baptist), and *both* legitimate theories on the origins of life (creationism *and* intelligent design). Alas, I’ll never be as open-minded and tolerant — or have nearly as much time to waste while on the public dime — as the wonderful politicians in the state of Oklahoma…
Now, now, there’s no need to get hasty here.
:-)

Sorry, that should read “an intellectually rigorous discussion on science”…
Sure– as long as they are claimed to be scientific ones.
