How to Get Fundies to Oppose Church & State Marriage

Gay MarriageWhat’s the best way to convince fundies that church and state should be separate? Jeff Randal made this comment one of my facebook status updates, and I had to share it:

I think I may have a solution: convince the religious fundies that both the church and state are male, and that having a marriage between them is a “gay marriage.”

Then they should oppose it just as much as we do…

Good one, Jeff!

    But fundies think they’re already joined, so splitting them up would be divorce, which is against god. We have conflicting sides here…

    • UNRR says:

      True, but they obviously think gay marriage is a much worse sin. You don’t see them screaming and howling about how divorce is going to destroy civilization like gay marriage.

    The Church is sometimes referred to as the “bride of Christ”, so clearly it’s female. However, if it’s married to Christ, then it’s committing adultery with the State, so it needs to break off that relationship and repent.

    • MahouSniper says:

      The church being female explains a lot. Maybe the reason for sporadic bursts of activity in the church (The Crusades, the Salem Witch Trials, the fundies now) is because it’s just PMSing. It’s old, so it could also have random hot flashes.

  3. The funny thing is, the Church opposes gay marriage because they say gays are sinners living in sin.

    Well, on that token, the church should stop allowing anyone to have church marriages unless they can prove they are sinless.

    Which, of course, is impossible, even for the church. So Christians don’t even qualify for Christian marriage.

    I have… but it still felt really stalkerish to do so.

    @Mahou
    I understand what you’re saying… but you do realize that’s an incredibly sexist comment, right? Also (I unfortunately lost the reference) but there is some evidence that men also have cyclic hormone cycles that can affect their mood over regular periods of time, leading to less severe, but similar, mood swings that women experience.
