Here is Chris Smither’s “Origin of Species”:
Even has some great guitar work.
This is a great line:
They’ll have sex and mix up sections
Of their code they’ll have mutations
The whole thing works like clockwork
Over timeI’ll just sit back in the shade
While everyone gets laid
That’s what I call Intelligent Design

Awesome.
Love it!
I’ve been a big Chris Smither fan for awhile now. This song is what sparked my interest.
Check out “Leave the Light On.” No science/religion stuff, but just a great song.
Nerdcore artist MC Frontalot also does a great track called “Origin of Species”
Including my favorite lines:
lol
I love this song! It played on my local College Radio/NPR affiliate station a few years ago, and I went crazy trying to find it. When I finally did track it down, I bought it immediately through iTunes. I hadn’t listened to it in at least a year though. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention!
Beautiful :) Few things make me feel spiritual, but a well played accoustic guitar manages it :)
Custador…you are not so far from the kingdom of God my friend. Beautiful music ushers us into His presence, that Life of the ages only He can offer for He and it…are the same.
Beautiful indeed…
That’s awesome John C. Then I’m DEFINITELY going to heaven. Because I have better taste in music than anybody I know! In fact, when I look at my “favorites” on youtube, they’re all just great songs. In fact, I just favorited this one!!!! This was great. Thanks, Daniel.
No John. Really no. God didn’t create the guitar, neither did he create the guitarist. Stop giving your imaginary friend the credit for the music produced by a talented man.
Yes Custy…yes. Its ok, no need to be jealous of Gods giftings, He gives because that’s His very nature. What would He give you if you only asked Him? Hmm…
How DARE you belittle the work that Chris Smither must have put in to become that good at guitar? How DARE you write it off like that? Saying “Oh, he’s that good because God made him that good” effectively dismisses all of the blood, sweat and tears he’s put into it. If you imaginary sky-daddy God had made Chris Smither a great guitarist, he wouldn’t have had to learn and practise, would he? I don’t think I’ve ever found you more offensive than I do right now, frankly.
but Custy, God made John C that offensive.
No, the Bible and a bunch of other theists did it.
The other way to look at it…how DARE we not give God glory as we express His beauty, His true nature in music, arts, giftings, talents, etc.
Easily?
Chris Smither definitely exists. That’s the difference.
JC- I think you are on thin ice here. Gifts are a combination of genetics and circumstance… and there is LOTS of evidence for this. Evidence for gifts from God is seriously lacking.
Easily!
How dare you insult people who put hard work into their character and skills?
How dare you give away the credit for their hard work to your imaginary heartworm live-in boyfriend?
I’m glad I could provide you guys (and gals) with some target practice, seeing as its such a slow night and all, :)
Because god is your imaginary friend. That’s why.
I’m with you. My mother is a great cook (wait, I’m actually going somewhere with this), and when we have a family get-together, my dad prays for a full 5 minutes thanking god for the food. Who is this “god” who keeps getting the credit when my mom spent 2 solid days making the food? And my dad earned the money to buy the food? So my sisters and I, after the prayer, add a little p.s. – and thank you MOM for actually doing the work of cooking, setting the table, etc. Please. Let’s give credit where it’s due.
I honestly find much more offensive the idea that music could be especially close to God. The line “Beautiful music ushers us into His presence” is ridiculous; either you admit that God is actually omnipresent and the statement is meaningless (you can’t “usher” somebody “into His presence’ if she’s already IN it), or you are suggesting that some individuals, those good at music, have a special connection with God. Since Christianity also holds that God is omnipotent, this is tantamount to declaring that person definitively better, diviner, and more powerful than others.
But either way, it sounds from this song like Chris Smither is a Christian anyways, so the whole debate is irrelevant.
Awesome John C. Didn’t know it was that easy. There’s about a million kids in Somalia who asked god if they could be alive to see their 6th birthday. Now we wait for the answer! Oops, right, sometimes god says “no”…
