Christian Preacher Ignorance

Why do these preachers think they are doing any good? They turn off almost everyone and look like idiots.

    THE HOLY SPIRIT! HE’S HOLY!

  2. brgulker says:

If I hadn’t witnessed things like this for myself, I would think it’s a comedy routine (something like Borat, for example).

  3. McHonza says:

It’s tough when you have people like this claiming to be on your team.

  4. billybee says:

In this situation, I would stand at Preacher man’s side and ask the crowd to “raise your hand if you think this guy’s words represent the beliefs of an insane jackass.”
The poll results would most likely speak volumes.

  5. Hans says:

It’s boot camp for preachers. Either you burn out, or you learn what rhetorical tricks and flourises work. If he keeps up, he’ll only get better.

  6. Blue Nine says:

I think these guys yell at people for their own benefit, their own ego. I think they just want to be able to tell themselves that they tried to spread the word. If they cared about effectiveness, they would not do it that way at all.

  7. bubbaj30 says:

Well…at least he keeps hydrated (i.e: the camelback).

  8. Adam says:

HA! That’s “Brother Micah”. He goes around to college campuses across the country. I’ve run into him a couple of times at the University of Alabama. He is very entertaining. If you actually talk to him he knows he looks like an idiot and he says it’s just a show he puts on to get people to question and get into Christianity. I hope ya’ll get a chance to see him. He’s really fun to watch.

    • Daniel Florien says:

Thankfully, I’m sure he turns off far more than he persuades.

    • Olaf says:

I doubt that people will ask questions, I think that they more likely associate christianity with lunatics. I who wants to be in heaven with such a person?

    • Lanie says:

Brother Micah is at my school, too. He preaches in our free speech area at University of Florida. I’m glad someone else knows him as well! Have you heard that speech about “pre-marital hand holding”? Or how he calls women whores? He’s ridiculous.

    • Roger says:

There was a person like him who would come to the University of Tennessee and preach against…well, EVERYTHING. His placard had, among a multitude of other things, “sports watching” as a sin.

Sports watching. At the University of Tennessee. A SIN.

Essentially, according to this guy, only about two people from UT would be going to heaven.

  9. Grindfreak says:

At OSU we had a guy called “Preacher Bob” that used to do the same thing. There’s gotta be one on every campus.

  10. Closet Atheist says:

I wonder if these people realize how much damage they do to their religion? Then again, if they did the honest critical self-reflection necessary to realize this, they would probably end up leaving their ‘religion’ too.

    • Roger says:

I’m not so sure they care about bringing sinner men and sinner women to repentance. As near as I can tell, I think they’re trying to be “prophets” in the Jeremiah tradition: stand up to the evil forces (or whatever they construe as evil–hence, college campuses) and tell them that “the Lord says such-and-so.” It’s more about condemnation.

But then again, I could be wrong.

    • Janet Greene says:

Just wondering – why do you call yourself “closet atheist”? I’m pretty much one too in that there are only a few people I have told.

  11. The Student says:

Hey, I know that guy! He called himself “Brother Micah” and comes about once a month to UNC. From what I understand, he usually travels up and down the east coast, preaching at universities. On most sunny days, we’ll have somewhere between 1-4 of these lunatics. They usually attract a crowd around 50 or more at any given time. Funny story: I dressed up as him on Halloween and got laid that night for calling women whores all night. I love college. :-)

  12. Custador says:

There were a bunch of Creatard Shouty Street Preachers in Cardiff a while back, and their five and six year old kids were handing out leaflets about how evolution is a devil-inspired hoax. I had to fight down the urge to go and beat them all as righteous retribution for abusing their children… I just wanted to punch them repeatedly in the head while shouting “Where’s your God now, arsehole?”

I also want to stay out of jail, so I didn’t do it. Doubtless a Creatard would cite that as God protecting them from me…

  13. AnonyMouse says:

Did anyone else notice the voices in the background? A bunch of the people there were pointing out the hypocrisy and miscellaneous stupidity in what he was saying.

  14. Clergy Guy says:

Yeah, the guy looks like a moron. He is not representative of most of the intelligent hardworking pastors I know. I’ve known plenty of eccentric muddleheaded professors as well as students but it would be unfair to think all people in education were pontifical buffoons.

  15. Janet Greene says:

I think this is a spoof and this guy is an atheist. Has to be.
