A Catholic priest has been arrested for soliciting sex from a 16 year old, which was actually an undercover FBI agent:
James Patrick Grady, 57, Pastor of St. Raphael The Archangel, showed up at a St. Louis County home Wednesday, offering to pay money to have sex with a 16-year-old girl, documents allege.
Grady had been exchanging e-mails with an undercover police officer or FBI agent Wednesday, inquiring about an online ad offering young females, according to an affidavit filed in court by FBI Special Agent Cynthia Dockery.
Grady asked for details and was provided a digitally-altered picture of a 16-year-old girl and a price of $80 for 30 minutes and $160 for a full hour, Dockery wrote. Grady asked for a massage from the girl, and was refused. He then asked for kissing and oral sex, Dockery wrote.
Grady then allegedly called the undercover officer and got directions to a secret location somewhere in the St. Louis area. He showed up with the money but became suspicious and had turned away to leave when he was arrested, Dockery wrote.
Grady admitted sending the emails and said he came to the house because he was “curious,” Dockery wrote. He also admitted that he was a priest.
Yeah, as a priest sworn to celibacy, I’m sure he was very “curious.”
His church has suspended him pending the outcome of the court case, and is paying his legal bills. They will also post bond if the court allows it. What nice guys!

At least it’s not a 10-year-old boy. These things and this level of hypocrisy doesn’t surprise me any more.
I’m not sure a soliciting a 16 year old is that much better than soliciting a 10 year old. It’s one thing for a 10 year old to be curious about another 10 year old. Same would be true for two 16 year olds. But I don’t see much difference between a 57 year old being interested in a pre-pubescent or a just-barely-post-pubescent.
Sex at 16 is legal in the UK. Come to think of it, my first adventure in the field of bedroom athletics was on my sixteenth birthday.
In Japan it’s legal at 14. In some South American countries, I’ve heard it’s 12. Different values in different places I guess. Aren’t there some stated in the US where the age of consent is 21? That’s as ridiculous as 12 or 14 to me.
Sex with a peer at 16 is different than sex between a 57 year old and a 16 year old, in my opinion. That was my only point.
“Offered to pay money”? “With a girl”? How bizarre.
He’ll be transferred to another diocese. The church will declare that it’s unfair to judge or condemn him since nothing happened and he made a harmless mistake. His congregation will regret to have to lose him, because he was always so nice to everybody. 19 months from now, he will be found out molesting a 13 year old girl at his new diocese.
Same old same old.
Too bad it wasn’t a boy, so no opportunity to go after the gays again.
I’m guessing the church will portray him as seeking out this girl to stop her from her terrible sin…..
his defense will be that he was seeking out this girl to bring her to god and cease her sinning……
It’s sad that this sort of stuff doesn’t surprise me anymore.
I’m from St. Louis. He used to be pastor of one of the Catholic churches up the road (ironically, one that I attended after his departure and that was key to me leaving Catholicism). One of my coworkers used to work for him back in the late 80s/early 90s and said that he was a quiet guy. He has just plead “not guilty” to charges in court. His trial is set for early October and his lawyers will be paid for by the Church.
We had another area priest get caught with kiddie porn a few years back, and there have always been hush-hush abuse cases as well. I feel lucky in that the priests at the parish I was raised in were (as far as I know) honorable and trustworthy men.
I hope he gets convicted. I think the odds are a little better in this case – the FBI has wiretap recordings and video evidence, not just the years-old claims that are often associated with abuse cases.
The odd part is, of course, the “offered to pay”. Most clergy expect freebies or at lest a steep discount.
And not just curious about sex, but about sex with a child. Nasty. When exactly will these individuals learn? Instead you just hear one story after another. It’s deplorable.
hmm a human male having human sexual desires but prevented from expressing them due to very ancient and stupid dogma. His only recourse was to go after those weaker than him – who he could take advantage of. This is nothing new. We are all human animals – but it’s extremely hard to accept that to an institution that thinks we were popped onto this planet instantaneously – like magic!
like magic indeed, though not magic cause thats bad according to the bible though its different because god did it. My dads into the bible and even when i was 5 I couldnt wrap my mind around the whole “god created everything in 7 days, including himself even though he didnt exist” thing. I always kept asking the same question but where did god come from….. reminicing about the same answer over and over untill he would just leave the room, mad that I was immune to the indoctrination, which is why i made my own religeon. I wont say more cause its doubtfull anyone wants to hear about it, anyways i ramble on and on and on.srry just agreeing with VidLord we are all animals and denying your instincts will somtimes lead to trouble, especially if its one of the big 3, eating reproducing, or surviving.
srry bout the previouse post just read the rules, bit off topic srry.read another topic before this one and posted with both in mind.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume your new religion won’t be centered around the worship of spelling and grammar.
your right it isnt. Iv never realy been good at spelling, not my strong suite.oh and, lol
if your wondering in a nutshell its to try to be neutral to all ideas unless proven ( or with considerable doubt by evidence or other sources disproven)and to strive to help good causes, if not start them. this is just the basic premise of the whole thing mainly because to be completely “good” you would have to self extinguish yourself.therfore my theroy is that the best thing to do is to be neutral and just try to be good.
you were asking about what its based on right? if not just ignore the above statment(my above statement)
WOW! You really do ramble on, don’t you. Ever considered medication? Mary Jane works well for me.
Iv tried riddlin, kept forgetting to take my pills
I wonder what would have happened if he had not been arrested. If the diocese had discovered his activities before the cops got to him, would they have simply transfered him? If history is our guide, he would have been sent to counseling for a while, then reassigned to do it all over again.
The catholic church keeps blaming all of the child molestation scandals on the evil gay people who manage to sneak their way into the clergy. However, many of the cases are like this one where the priest is abusing a young girl. Hard to chalk this one up to being gay.
This doesn’t have anything to do with being straight or gay, it’s about being healthy. This man is obviously not healthy in that he has healthy desires and an unhealthy attitude towards them. To be sexually attracted to another: good. To be driven underground and eventually to using the weak to satisfy that attraction: bad. Thanks religion!
When I see things like this, I think about how long he’s been abusing young girls (and maybe boys) before he got caught. He didn’t just start out soliciting sex from a 16yo on the internet. There’s been a whole sequence of events leading up to this. How many other victims are behind him on his trail to this moment?
On the church paying for his legal bills:
If/when this priest is convicted, will the catholic church have directly funded the defence of child abuse?
The Pedofile factory strikes again .. & the church will just do whatever they can to move him to another town where he will do it again … In Australia its common place..
ever wonder why they where them big hats? that’s where the keep little boys.
