The Greeks were close to figuring out the germ theory? Amazing.
Eratosthenes near-accurately calculated the circumference of the earth by measuring shadows in Alexandria and Syene (Aswan).
Yeah, I knew that, but uh…small things you can’t see is quite different than measuring shadows(Which was still pretty brilliant). Come to think of it, wasn’t the atom first postulated by a Greek?
Yes, evolution of some kind (not by natural selection) too, though they were abstract philosophical hypotheses and not observations of empirical experimentation.
