hey hey, dont get me wrong, I dont believe any of this malarkey. But i know many of Christians who would find this offensive, and those who would say they were speaking on behalf of all deists; all while i snicker at them in the corner
I agree with Jeff….most believer I know are not exactly overflowing with a sense of humor on the subject–not to mention they just would not get the not-so-subtle but very accurate satire in the video. Well, let me rephrase, they would “get it” was an attack on their belief system, they just would be too defense about it to give it any credence.
I think some of the Mr. Deities they should be able to have a sense of humor about but because since most of the strength of the show is the ways he strikes so close to the absurdity of arguments they really think work, I think they would have a resistance to seeing the absurdity at work. Basically, half the time to recognize what’s ridiculous about what Mr. Deity is saying is to recognize the ridiculousness of Christian apologetics and the Bible. I don’t know how most people could do that and stay a Christian.
But this video in particular is harsher than it is funny and I can’t imagine Christians being anything but irritated or outright offended.
Nonetheless, putting a real “face” on the problem of evil, linking it directly to 9/11 makes an aggressive and poignant case. It’s no-bones-about-it satire.
Between watching Venus Williams on ESPN and being distracted by the candles that cover the computer’s Mac logo, I couldn’t follow much. I’ll try again later.
The surreality of conservatives absolute subjugation of their intellects to fear mongering in order to be manipulated by the right into volunteering to be shat upon astonishes me. This dichotomy is really brilliantly and entertainly illustrated by Joe Bageant’s Deer Hunting With Jesus. He is spot on with the conservative working class’s blind belief in “thank you, sir, may I have another”‘ whether it is to the government or their god. Joe also has a blog. He is a born and bred redneck who arose from the play-doh of the uneducated, misguided patriotic of our country. This may seem a bit off-topic, but the parallels are glaring as I see it; buy it, read it, laugh and weep.
It outlines the scary parallels between Neoconservatives and Islamic Radicals. Also how the conservatives use the power of fear-mongering while creating simplistic, fantasy like view of reality in order to gain power.
In order to take over power, you need a massive lot of stupid people that can be easily manipulated. With these people you can do the next step, try to let people stay away from education and don’t let them ask questions. So you get even more stupid people. At the end you kill off all remaining intelligent people and you have your own custom made 3rd world country where you can suck all those stupid people dry and have yourself lot s of fun.
“This dramatic battle between good and evil was precisely the kind of myth that Leo Strauss had taught his students would be necessary to rescue the country from moral decay. It might not be true, but it was necessary, to re-engage the public in a grand vision of America’s destiny, that would give meaning and purpose to their lives. The neoconservatives were succeeding in creating a simplistic fiction—a vision of the Soviet Union as the center of all evil in the world, and America as the only country that could rescue the world. And this nightmarish vision was beginning to give the neoconservatives great power and influence.”
To be honest, I have never shown a Mr. Deity to Christian friends of mine. I still would not, but this one I’m more on the fence about, simply because it does have more of an edge than the others I’ve seen. To be honest, I find myself affected by the hopelessness of the situation presented, and the sadness of either accepting a capricious and uncaring God on one hand, or a cold Reformed Theology, “God does it all for his Glory God” on the other hand. I’ll take neither, thanks.
Haven’t seen this one yet. Classic.
I love these. I’d also guess that even a believer could find humor in this.
aubrey, you guess wrong
Thank you Jeff, He Who Speaks On Behalf Of All Believers. :)

Awesome. This is one of my favorite ones.
That’s it, I have to go join on their website. Mr. Deity is absolutely the best

Just see CNN, This is really wierd.
Parents crying on TV because Obama will talk to their children and corrupt them??????
I tell ya, I didn’t think it could get weirder than it has been. And then, it did.
Repeat, ad infinitum ad nauseam.

hahahaha, exactly
You really expect this behaviour in an underdeveloped country, not the countrie that had put a man on the moon.
Ok I understand why the message from Obame to children : “Stay in school, and work hard” is so corrupting the young ones!
People that stay in school and gets educated asks questions!
Questions like: Is earth really flat like the bible says?
Ooh, this one’s sweet. Pretty ruthless. I like.
This is fabulous, thanks for the introduction.
