70 percent? Fail math. The calculation shouldn’t be 50% + 20% = 70%, but 1-(1-50%)(1-20%) = 60%. Only 20% of fetuses _whose mothers knew they were pregnant_ miscarried, while 50% of those _whose mothers did not yet know they were pregnant_ miscarried. Also, the numbers weren’t 50% and 20%, but “up to half” and “about 15-20%.”
But obviously the point is the same; most fetuses die before birth.
