Mantises are so badass- I saw some clip on a nature channel at work where one when up against some lizard. He got chomped, of course, but he didn’t back down for an instant. Plenty of opportunities to run, but he stared the lizard down until the end.Talk about going down swinging.
I like these clips. Praying mantises are neat; I’ve picked them up by just letting them walk onto my finger, and they’re such placid, easy-going insects. (Not being vegetarian is entirely unrelated.)
B. Kliban used to draw his cartoon cat singing:
Love to eat them mousies,
Mousies what I love to eat.
Bite they tiny heads off,
Nibble on they tiny feet.
This must be the mantis-grasshopper version. *munch* munch *mfff* *gulp* First the legs off, and finish with the head. Mmmmm…..
Oh, man – does that Kliban ditty ever bring back memories– I can see the fat guitar playing tiger with the skewed head now… LOL, thanks.
I was actually “charged” by a mantis on a sidewalk one day after school (middle)- friend was & tried to show her they weren’t frightening- I was very, very wrong that day.
Come on guys, is this any worse than what I do to a plate of crab legs or a lobster. Though the Mantis would probably enjoy it better with a little drawn butter and a bit of lemon.
As kids finding a mantis was always a prize. Put it in a jar with a couple of crickets and you had a home entertainment center (we’d would let them go afterwards). I think National Geographic had a recent photo of a mantis that caught, killed and ate a hummingbird!
What about Zorak? He’s like 182 cm tall!
Wow, with the mantis it’s waste not, want not. It ate the entire thing, Including the antennae!
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Loved the background music. LOL
Better hope PETA doesn’t see this.

I love how the preying mantis has sick.

Does Ray Comfort believe the praying mantis use to eat bananas in the garden of Eden?
Isn’t the fact that the little grasshopper fits so PERFECTLY into the Mantis’ little pincers evidence of God’s Almighty Wonderness (TM)?
/sarcasm
I’m pretty sure the grasshoppers would disagree about this being evidence of how wonderful God is.
Watch the praying mantis get its arse royally kicked:
