“You don’t sell atheism by running down a baby”…
Really? Is he saying that all those babies I ran over while screaming “there is no god” was for naught? Do I still get to keep my “baby points”?
You rage you lose!
Jeez. This guy doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about, and his eye candy co-hosts just sit there and let him disrespect them.
To be fair, his co-hosts they’re pretty used to that, being Christian and all.
Once again, I cannot believe that morons that brainless get prime-time coverage on a major network in a civilised country!
I got halfway through before I had to stop it. Their whole premise was bullshit! “You can be good without God” does NOT equate to “We hate Jeeeebus!”
It was just nonsense, an absolutely ridiculous non-connection.
I really hate Faux News.
Crazy is as crazy does.
Another common misconception. I hate baby jesus as much as I hate the easter bunny and lepruchans(ok, maybe I hate lepruchans more, they are terrifying). None of them existed so our hatred for them is as real as the mystical influences they have on us.
Do Christians bother hating Krishna?
Thinking as Pat Robertson would, I’d say yes since all good Christians hate the devil and Krishna is obviously linked with ol’ scratch.
But you know who I really hate? The Trix rabbit. Silly rabbit.
I know this is stating the obvious but where in any of the ads shown did they say anything about ANY particular belief?
Since the ads are aimed at already existing Atheists and not an attempt at converting Christians why should they care? (rhetorical question: as I am sure many of us can list several reasons why)
This stuff just pisses me off.
That’s FOX News for ya. Always using tools
I beleive in the true meaning of giftsmas!
I think the fact that one of the dizzy blondes said that xmas is an American tradition made her lose credence. It has been a bit of a tradition here in Australia too.
You mean she ever had credence?
Yeah, all four of them, on a crazy alcohol-fueled night in a hotel room in Reno in 1971. John Fogerty has since denied ever meeting her.
LOL! That was good :D
Very ironic considering that Christmas was originally created by Christians who were jealous of the pagans and their winter festivals.
I was about to point that out – it’s a hijacked holiday anyway. Hijacked by Christians from Pagans, and now used as a nice boom in consumerism, nothing more, really.
O’really?
We have the same word for Christmas and Yule (the original) over here. Pretty practical.
Well played!
Thr thought occurs that the ads must actually be targeting the Pagan gods since they feature Santa hats – pretty sure the Yuel Father wasn’t featured in the bible, after all!
Actually, the Bill Maher quip made me grin.
At least the other guests said he was crazy too.
Cutador, he’s not brainless, he’s wily. He ‘earns’ huge amounts of money without working by appealing to the truly brainless. The number who watch Faux News should make you wonder just how ‘civilized’ the country is.
At its high point (last election cycle), The O’Reilly Factor scraped together an audience of about three million, which is one-hundredth of the US population.
So I guess you’re saying we’re awesomely civilized?
: )
Custador, sorry for the typo.
No worries. I think you’re right, though: It’s lowest-common-denominator TV.
Don’t tell Bill, but atheists can enjoy Christmas too.
Doesn’t stop me from giving and receiving gifts. And how can one possibly be jealous of something that is not part of their value system???????
I’m a Satanist. Even I celebrate Christmas. Why? Because it’s fun to give (and get) gifts, and spend time with family.
Haven’t we won the war on Christmas yet? Sheesh, this thing is becoming a quagmire. Perhaps its time to consider a troop surge.
I’m thinking I should get about $30,000 to win the victory against Christmas.
So often they all giggle through their little segments while attempting to feign outrage. They might not know, but they seem to have a feeling that what they are talking about it complete nonsense.
And why are all of the women on this channel blonde? It’d be amazing to get some sort of statistic on how much money is likely spent hair color changing agents alone to create the image Fox projects. It must be so tough for the Fox viewership to hear any sort of information from a woman that they need it to be packaged in the same stereotypical copy every time. I can scarcely tell any of them apart.
Don’t tell him, but we as an atheist even have a Christmas tree and sit down with the family and have fun.
You’ve totally sold out on your atheistic principles. For shame.
Christ-mas is my favorite time of the year. partly because i get to intentionally mispronounce Christ-mas and partly because i get to listen to Burl Ives sing Christmas music.
also, i guess hanging out with my family is kind of nice.
(shhhh, don’t tell anyone but atheists SELL Christmas Trees!!!)
Yeah, I love saying “Happy Holidays” wondering how many are offended but it appears to me most could care less, they just need to get the kids home put up the tree and then put it on the curb in a few weeks… (Oh the ranting I could do right now)
Happy Holidays everyone =)
I don’t know about the rest of you dirty atheists, but I would LOVE to have baby Jesus for Christmas.
Some garlic, a little rosemary, stuff an apple in his mouth. Bake at 350, I bet he would taste heavenly.
would it taste like chicken?
with FFFava beans?
i feel like he would taste more like pork… jews aren’t allowed to eat pigs coz they taste like ppl
I’m pretty sure baby Jesus would taste a LOT like unleavened bread.
Christians are jealous of atheists because they can celebrate the Christmas holiday without that whole God thing.
I sure don’t miss midnight mass.
No kidding! I HATED going to midnight mass.
EXACTLY! We get the gifts, the food, the booze, the company and the awesome array of new films on TV – but we DON’T have to grovell and fawn at an imaginary friend / skydaddy while doing it! Atheism plus Christmas – it’s a WINNER!
that’s why we call it Xmas!
and yes, my house is trimmed to the roof!
Merry Xmas y’all :-)
It’s interesting to talk about easter, though. It’s a holiday based on a (very unchristian!) lunar calendar, with fertility symbols all over the place (bunnies and stuff). So … nice timing, Jesus!
Silly blondies inteligience and edjumacation of da topic.
/dumb speak
What an enlightening opinion from Fox News.
Their ability to put forward a totally biased point and smear it with rhetoric astounds me.
The humanist association is not ATTACKING god.
At least i hope not, i don’t think that’d be the most effective method for a public organisation and I’m sure the org. realise that.
The Humanist association is spreading the message that to not believe in god is fine.
Fine as in, safe, acceptable and not life changing.
More of this is good.
(did you see reily arguing with dawkins! that was hilarious!)
The biggest holiday in the Western world is Christmas….a celebration chock full of icons, lights, music, consumerism…and yet it is a celebration that is COMPLETELY made up! There isn’t one hostorical fact about Christmas, except that Jesus was born somewhere, sometime. Every story about the “facts” of Christmas are just oral and written legend. No stable, no Mary, no Bethlehem, no star. Not one fact. But oafs like these twits on Fox have absolutely no clue, surprise surprise.
From Luke through Dickens to Macy’s, it’s all made up. But they’re willing to defend it to the death, while calling Mormonism and Muhammed fables.
And they call atheists uninformed fools.
Well, the whole thesis of that segment was completely wrong on every single point. Here are three points that nobody has pointed out yet:
“O’Reilly: The bus ads run down religion just in time for Christmas, isn’t that nice?”
“Guest: If they were attacking Christianity, they could attack the 11 other months…”
Ask and ye shall receive: ads ran in February and March.
“Angry Guest: Jesus Christ!
Fathead: They don’t like the baby Jesus.
Angry Guest: This is a direct and deliberate smear against Christianity! Do you think they would do this ad campaign in July?
Fathead: Do you think they would do it against Allah at Ramadan? I don’t think so!
Angry Guest: AhWHWWHWHAHAHAA. Booo! Meuawhaahah! Unnnnghghg? <fart> Ahhhwhwhww?
Fathead: [O'Reilly can impressively understand Evangelenglish] Because they loathe the baby Jesus! He’s just a baby!”
Well as it turns out, ads were prepared to run in July, but were rejected, causing the ACLU to file suit.
Oh, and BABY JESUS! 8 lb 6 oz BABY JESUS!
Thankyou for the references, you’d write great wiki’s.
I’m not even going to look at them because im in a hurry.
But cheers.
There is one thing sayin summin, there is another thing referencing it.
ahahha. And WE ALL L O V E 8oz J E S U S
Odd. My comment isn’t showing up. Too many links I guess. Anyway, three points:
1) Ads were run in Feb. and March, so they do run them all year long;
2) Ads were attempted to run in Bloomington in July, but were stopped, getting the ACLU involved. They were eventually run in August, the month that corresponds to Ramadan;
3) Ricky Bobby’s family dinner!
DUDE.it’s there. Chill.
They just need to add Lou Dobbs and The Faux Network will be complete!
Flat out funny. You are a knee slapper O’Reilly.
Jealous of Christmas? I think only atheists can appreciate christmas as the festival of rampant commercialism and consumption that it truly is.
A “smear against christianity”. I guess her comments are a “smear against humanists”. And, like many other atheists, I love christmas! And I’m so encouraged by the fact that more and more people are atheist or agnostic. And “traditional values”? We all know about the “values” espoused in the bible…slavery, mysogeny, violence, jealousy, fear, well we all know the drill. Same ol’, same ol’.
