Atheists have Rock & Roll

Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers sing the entire atheist hymnal: “Atheist’s Don’t Have No Songs.” At Merlefest, no less.

Having grown up listening to bluegrass, I gotta say this is classic. Which reminds me, if you haven’t heard John Butler’s Hand of the Almighty, do so.

    That’s horrible–and great!

I saw them at Merlefest, and they were awesome. This video, however, does not seem to be from Merlefest–that cloth hanging behind them was not on the main Watson stage where they performed.

Gotcha. I guess I misunderstood the OP’s description. They were at Merlefest, but they’ve also toured a bit outside of that, and this must be from another date.

I love Gershwin, Gershwin and Heywood’s “It Ain’t Necessarily So”. And the Austin Lounge Lizards have a couple great ones, such as “Jesus Loves Me (But he Can’t Stand You). Also check out Dan
Barker of the Freedom From Religion Foundation including “Nothing Fails Like Prayer”.

My bad. It is not Haywood, it is DuBose Heyward.

Yes, great stuff, an instant classic. Made me laugh.

Very fun. He’s where I admit I am an atheist who does sing songs of faith (I just don’t believe them.)

I guess metal comes from the Norse and Satanists?

I didn’t know Steve Martin was on our side…
