He touched me. I wish I could find a version of this with altar boys singing.

Is Je pinching Pete’s peter in that first painting?

  2. Jerdog says:

If that was a test, to see if I could listen to the whole thing… I failed.

  3. Alexis says:

Even though I grew up with this sh** I mean fine quality music on the local radio station, I am grateful that English subtitles were included. E Dutched Me? What does that mean?

    • Alexis says:

The first line sounded to me like “Shackled by a heavy bourbon…” and thought “Ummm good Kentucky sippin’ whiskey!”

  4. WMDKitty says:

    …and I’d like to file a complaint.

  5. Rachel says:

I haven’t been coming here very long so maybe I missed something….

Bleah. I couldn’t get through it either.

Lame, i was expecting something else

  8. VidLord says:

so comforting. reminds of that bill mahr movie when the trucker said “Don’t take my Jesus away!!!”

  9. Pippin says:

Does no one else find it a bit disturbing to see a post that’s making light of child molestation? Maybe a knee-jerk laugh when you hear the song, but a considered decision to post and encourage other people to find it funny? Really?

    • Mike says:

There is nothing funny about child molestation, no-one is making light of it and a lot of people, myself included are absolutely steaming about the goings on in the Catholic church. The irony of the title of the song is amusing, not the molestation.

      • Pippin says:

Well, perhaps, but I find that a little disingenuous. It remains the case that it’s using the situation as a prompt for humour – would it be posted as funny if there was no endemic molestation going on? Unlikely. I just find this one a bridge too far, personally.

    • Jabster says:

A couple of points, firstly using a subject as a source of humour doesn’t necessarily make light of it, indeed one of the sources of humour is being able to raise difficult subjects. Secondly following the humour can’t offend route leads to the situation where there is no humour as you will always be able to find so who finds the subject at hand offensive.

… and yes I’m sure there are limits to what is “acceptable” but I don’t believe this is one of them.

      • Pippin says:

Absolutely – it’s clear that a lot of (or most, or all) humour is going to offend someone, and there’s no hard and fast rule as to when that is. Nor are there any firm edicts about what is “acceptable” in some global sense. Nor should there be.

I was merely expressing my opinion that this particular bit of humour (“ha ha, they have a song called ‘He Touched Me’ and some of them molest children”) was a bridge too far for me.

        • WMDKitty says:

Concern troll is concerned. How CUTE!

          • Custador says:

Concern Troll was obviously never abused as a child. I’ve yet to meet anybody who was who was not also able to make some dark, dark, jokes about it.

            • WMDKitty says:

I’m a survivor of DV — I think it’s healthier to crack some dark jokes than to, say, start cutting on myself (again). Or, you know, self-destructing in some other way.

              Coping mechanisms FTW!

            • Jabster says:

Oh go on what’s DV … I’m guessing that V is violation but the best I’ve come up with for D is driver and that just doesn’t seem like the subject in hand.

            • WMDKitty says:

              Domestic Violence.

          • Pippin says:

Wow… that’s a pretty low threshold for calling someone a troll? Expressing concern over a joke involving child molestation? Going with wikipedia, a troll is someone posting “inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages”, of which my comments have been none, unless the bar is set absurdly low and it’s to be considered “inflammatory”? Hardly.

            • Erik says:

              concern troll
A person who lurks, then posts, on a site or blog, expressing concern for policies, comments, attitudes of others on the site. It is viewed as insincere, manipulative, condescending.

            • Pippin says:

Huh… interesting. Hadn’t heard of that one before. But also: what the hell? People aren’t allowed/supposed to have a different view from the majority and express it? If I’m a regular reader I’m not meant to comment unless it’s in line with the majority view?

I generally find the stuff posted on this blog to be deeply interesting, I read it every day – but I think I’m entitled to post a ‘concern’ without being called “insincere, manipulative, condescending”. Wow.

            • salbro1 says:

I’ll probably be called a sockpuppet for this post… But I also don’t think this really constitutes concern trolling. Maybe Pippin has a history that I’m not aware of on this site. But commenters should be free to respectfully disagree–a supporting argument is also nice–without being subjected to ad hominem attacks. Not that I personally found this post to be offensive, but it’s not unreasonable that someone might find molestation jokes to be tasteless.

            • Daniel Florien says:

I’m thinking Pippin should say away from this post:

              http://unreasonablefaith.com/2010/04/19/qotd-whats-your-favorite-joke/

            • Mike says:

I do not agree with Pippin that the use of humour here is offensive, but I can see where she is coming from. C’mon guys, this is not trolling.

        • DarkMatter says:

“but it’s not unreasonable that someone might find molestation jokes to be tasteless.”

Depending who the molester is and who Pippin ignored.

  10. JK says:

Where does that sudden urge to vomit all over the place come from… :-(((
Even though I stopped watching the video after 5 seconds, I still feel sick.

  11. Camilla Stefansdotte says:

    Where did he touch you?

  12. salbro1 says:

I can remember singing this song in church when I was a teenager and wondering why no one else seemed to be uncomfortable. At the time, I just chalked it up to Satan trying to ruin what should have been a pure religious experience. Now I just realize it’s a terrible song!

  13. Kate says:

    Oy……. that was awful.

  14. cna training says:

Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
