Rep. Mark Souder Resigns After Affair With Staffer

Family is very important to these “family values” politicians… except in their own lives. Now Rep. Mark Souder has resigned for having an affair with a staff member:

Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office.

Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he “sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff.”

“I wish I could have been a better example,” he said. “In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. … We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility. Not only am I thankful for a loving family but for a loving God.”

Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of Souder’s affair with the staffer would have landed him before the House Ethics Committee. Sources told Fox News that the aide, identified as Tracy Jackson, a woman in her mid-40s, would accompany the congressman to events and to record ads at a Christian radio broadcast station.

It gets better (or worse). Mark Souder produced a video promoting abstinence… with his mistress:

Here is how this hypocritical douchebag voted on issues:

Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. (Nov 2007)
Voted YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. (Jul 2006)
Voted YES on making the PATRIOT Act permanent. (Dec 2005)
Voted YES on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage. (Sep 2004)
Voted YES on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (Sep 2004)
Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC. (Jul 1999)
Amend Constitution to define traditional marriage. (Jun 2008)

Glad to see him go — the way he left is just icing on the cake.

Update: Video fixed; Mark removed the original, but he should know that you can never beat the internets!

He’s (was) actually the congressman from my district (no I didn’t vote for him). =P

  2. nazani14 says:

I hope Ms. Jackson was paid well, or at least got a great government contract for someone in her family. I hope his wife decides to dump him. Oh, boo, the video has been removed. Pout.

  3. claidheamh mor says:

What!? Obviously he defines marriage as one-man-one-woman-one mistress-on-the-side.

    • Zach_the_Lizard says:

Of course! It’s only the liberal atheist communist media that doesn’t understand his traditional values! Didn’t you know that God wants us all to have wives and mistresses? To even complain about it is devil work.

  4. Danny says:

I live in Souder’s district and this made me really happy to hear. He has been a terrible representative and I’m glad he’s out of office.

  5. Custador says:

“In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain.”

He fucked another woman who was not his wife. How exactly does one “twist” that?

    • Grumpygirl says:

Don’t you understand??? God is forgiving!! If God forgives, then we should forgive!! Love the sinner, not the sin!!! It’s just that the rules aren’t the same for those who disagree with you politically.

      He’s a reprehensible toad.

    • Tabbie says:

Crusty A-holes like Souder are fond of the rule known as the “Do what I say and not what I do” rule. Anyone who objects to that rule is apparently guilty of “twisting” things. I’d like to slap on a thick rubber glove and wrench his little lawmaker until he understands the real meaning of “twist” — but since I’m not available to do it, I hope his wife will. Religion sucks. Mixing religion with politics sucks even more, but hypocrisy amongst the politically religious sucks the most!

  6. yahweh says:

I guess power is sexy. He looks like a troll and she is not bad for mid-40s.

  7. Nelly says:

Perhaps his wife was barren and he took a concubine………….aka OT

  8. VidLord says:

first thought: she is way too hot to have slept with that fat dog
second thought: I don’t like thinking about the first thought.
third thought: was she married? If so I would hate to be her husband right now.

  9. Jared says:

Wait, based off the tone of some of these comments, have I stumbled across what many would mistaken for a fundamentalist Christian blog?

  10. Steve Wylder says:

I actually sympathized with Souder when he was challenged in the primary by a Fort
Wayne car dealer who attacked Souder for being not right-wing enough. But his adultery reminds me of his hypocrisy. This was the guy who came up with the “Drug-Free Student Amendment,” which prevented people with drug convictions from receiving student aid. You could be a convicted serial killer and get student aid from the feds, but a clean record marred by one little marijuana conviction meant no student aid. And that ususally meant no higher education. And this is a guy who talks about forgiveness? And then he blamed the atmosphere of Washington for his affair, even though his trysts with his paramour were at Indiana state parks? I hope Mark and his wife, and Tracy and her husband can reconcile. But the best penance for Souder and the happiest outcome for the Third District, is to see Dr. Tom Hayhurst, Democrat, elected to Congress.

Abstinence education…? Damn, he IS good. I’d like to hear his inner monologue during this. And hers as well.

“Do her. Do her. Do her”

‘Do me. Do me. Do me.”

    Let’s get it on…..
