Wow, talk about random use of a television advertisement as political/religious soapbox.

  1. Alison says:

See, I wouldn’t buy from him based on that advertisement! Bad form dude, bad form.

  2. Wendy says:

That’s the most random interjection of WHARRRGAARBL that I’ve seen in a long time

    /and I live in Texas

  3. Daniel C Brewer says:

I can relate to this guy a lot from when I was a Christian, and its a good illustration how some things work.

He’s trying to proclaim his faith and shit. He thinks that God will reward him with that, when in reality, the majority of Americans will flock to him for their siding.

  4. wintermute says:

So far as I can tell, he’s using “secular socialism” to mean “not buying stuffs from me”.

Or was there a chunk they edited out of the middle?

    • Jabster says:

Didn’t you know that the Bible clearly states that Jesus was a capitalist … I mean who else could have founded such a large an long lasting business such as “The Church” (c) … Apple fanbios have nothing on Christians!

  5. David says:

Oklahoma City Forum has links to a news reporter who confronted Terrell and had a scary experience with the guy, so un-christian, http://demookie.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47899

  6. Only an idiot would create an advertisement that by it’s nature alienates half his potential customers.

But then again, If you’re a christian uber-conservative, you’re already *AT* idiocy.

    • Peter Cross says:

Half? have you been to Oklahoma?

      • Kodie says:

Right, if anything, he’s giving the warm fuzzies to nearly 100% of the people with no idea which siding company to choose from among several. Probably a lot will even pay more to make sure their dollars stay inside conservative christian causes and prosper this nice man rather than those other companies who are almost certainly also owned and operated by conservative christians. We don’t know, we have doubts about them now. We buy this Terrell’s guy better.

        • Nox says:

Yeah, this is just a new take on putting a cross or jesus fish on your business card to let prospective clients know you’re one of them. Of course this is a lot more common in markets (like oklahoma) with an overwhelmingly christian populace.

“I think that siding salesman down the street might be an atheist. And this guy has a fish on his sign. What he hates socialism too? I’m in.”

  7. ryedo says:

Terrell must be related to these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiaI63pBmLs

  8. nazani14 says:

That “T” is actually a Thor’s hammer emblem, isn’t it? Wink, wink. Wonder which is more important to him – religion or racism?

  9. Andrew Skegg says:

Woah – my brain had to make a huge uncomfortable leap from household glazing to right wing politics. I don’t think it’s ever done that before.

  10. faithnomore says:

So, then does that mean christian socialism is okay?

  11. Tabbie says:

Right wing fundamentalism is insidiously pervasive within the USA. Small towns across the nation are peppered with people like this. I’d never do business with this guy, but I personally know a lot of people who would. I find living here to be increasingly dangerous and disheartening.

  12. gardengirl says:

I think the people who find it necessary to be very vocal and public about their religious views are usually really just trying to cover up the fact that they are horrible human beings.

  13. bigjohn756 says:

This is normal, every day stuff here in East Texas, too. Besides the ads, the local “news” programs proselytize every night. There is obviously only one reason to live and that is for the aggrandizement of the Christian religion. Which, of course, few, if any, Christians practice daily. I sincerely believe that most Christians around here have no idea that their religion is supposed to apply to their daily lives. For the most part these people don’t seem to realize that anyone else even exists other than themselves. Furthermore…oh -uk- it…

  14. Ser Jugger says:

This guy is a joke in Oklahoma in regards to his business practices. Actually my dad sold his Soloflex to this guy back in the late 80s.

  15. Igor says:

My girlfriend is (nominally) Jewish, I am (nominally) Catholic. Until recently, I couldn’t understand her visceral distaste for Christianity. Videos like this make it clear. It’s code for all that’s wrong, anti-Semitic and hateful about these folks. They rant against “secularism” (which we both subscribe to), but just below the surface, it’s not far from everything she suffered through as the only Jew in a Christian world. They’ll even trumpet their support for Israel, but you won’t find a Jew in their country club. I doubt if a liberal swarthy Semite named Jeshua, with a big nose, a passion for the Torah and a message of “love your enemies” would be welcome anywhere near these hypocritical bastards.

  16. Rev PJ says:

Are moose knuckles de rigueur for xtian siding salesmen?

  17. Revyloution says:

Holy shit! Has anyone been to his website? He is bragging about the 2009 stimulus bill, and how it has tax credits for installing energy efficient windows!!

Seriously, advertising with socialist tax credits, then running a TV ad decrying socialism? He really is a hypocrite of the first order.

  18. I’ll say it again and again: as an atheist libertarian, I would rather live in a socialist country with free elections, free speech and freedom of conscience than a more laissez-faire capitalist country that’s missing any of those. And the existence of so many atheist libertarians (and plain old Republican atheists) should be a little troubling to people on this guy’s bandwagon.

Why is it that the Oklahomans get all of teh crazy? Can’t you share? How are the atheist activists in the rest of the country supposed to measure up to you guys?

  19. David says:

Rachel Maddow has picked up on it, just did a segment on this ad!

  20. Yoav says:

Daniel, they apparently reading your blog at MSNBC. Rachel Maddow is just running a story about this ad.

  21. runty_cactus says:

Is that the whole thing? Seriously, looks like someone took something out of the middle. What a random change in topic.
