James McGrath declares this video (originally from Stuff Fundies Like) as “one of the least intelligible “arguments” I’ve ever encountered to support any point of view, anywhere, ever.”
I’m having a hard time disagreeing.
However, this may be a perfect time to try out YouTube’s “vuvuzela” function. Click through to the YouTube site (by clicking on the YouTube logo at the bottom right). Once there, click on the soccer ball/foot ball icon on the bottom right, just beneath the video.
There now, doesn’t that just improve his argument immensely? That’s the magic of the vuvuzela button. Use it wisely.

“… it’s pure from the year 1611 till today …” At last – irrefutable proof.
Yeah, that’s a pretty stupid argument. I bet Beowulf doesn’t have a copyright, but that doesn’t mean it was a real story.
I have a feeling he doesn’t know what copyright is and thinks “no copyright” means something like “no corrections were made in the copies”.
Still, pretty damn stupid. And especially ironic considering it’s the KJV Bible he’s talking about.

Deep stupidity and religion gang thegither like freedom and whisky.
Definitely has no clue what a copywrite is. Idiot.
I’m not sure you do either.
What’s your basis for that (quite patronising) retort?
I assume you’re saying that misspelling a word = not knowing the meaning of that word?
I thought this was a hoax until I looked at this poor boob’s YouTube page. Clearly, he is for real. He has uploaded dozens of videos. I watched a bit of this one, in which, as he reads and comments on a passage from Luke 23, he repeatedly pronounces the word “malefactor” as “male factor.” E.g., “Now I want to clarify what a male factor is.” I wonder if he pronounces “benefactor” as “bean factor.”
So…. What about from 0AD to 1611AD? Was it “pure” and “untouched” before that?
There was no 0 AD. 1 AD follows 1 BC.
You really are a nitpicking prick….
No, that is a pretty elementary fact about the calendar that anyone should know.
So, if we would all move on and focus on the crux of Custador’s comment instead. I mean, are you proud of yourself?
“are you proud of yourself?”
Ph.D. in philosophy – what do you think?
Always a damned shame when people can’t bring themselves to do a proper degree. I used to have a house-mate who was doing a BA in philosophy at a good UK university – He had six hours a week of lectures and a whole one book to read. Bastard. I was knocking out 30 hours a week in lectures, 8 hours in labs and 20 hours in self study. But then I was studying an engineering discipline. You know, a proper degree.
Hey now, a philosophy degree *can* be rigorous. It depends on how the program is set up. Also it requires an innate skill (lateral thinking) much like engineering requires an innate skill (process thinking) that not a lot of people have to the extent that they need to succeed in the field. Also, these days, many philosophy programs integrate computer science and linguistics subject matter, which are themselves difficult.
Well that spoiled a perfectly good mocking :D
You can mock me if you need to get it out of your system; I went for a sociology degree. That was after nearly failing out from political science, which was comparatively rigorous. For my final semester in sociology, I turned in an 8 page paper for statistics 10 page paper assignment with no charts and got a B+ on it.
Mock away!
Bloody humanities students!
Nah, I’m a student nurse now so I can’t really carry that off :D
I want to talk to this kid in ten years. How do you undo all those humiliating videos?
omg…. that hurts my brain! Clearly he is unaware that the 1611 KJV has in fact had several revisions and corrections over the years.
The KJV 1611 has had only 4 real revisions, the last one in 1769 which is what is published today. The corrections are essentially printer’s errors, punctuation and font. The text of the 1769 is essentially the 1611 (except for the Apocrypha). It is commonly reported that there are hundreds of revisions, but there are only hundreds of editions. The kid doesn’t and shouldn’t care about what everyone thinks. Good for him.
Good for him that he’s a blithering idiot?
So what, he’s a blithering idiot. Big deal, the kid is tryin out YouTube. Were you a kid? You have a hard time excepting people not like yourself. He’s probably not gettin in much trouble….except on this blog.
Yes, he is getting into a lot of trouble in this blog. Have you already located his house and menaced him? No?
BTW probably I’m not the best one to point at this, but I still don’t understand how people can confuse “accept” and “except” -and yes, I know the pronunciation is pretty similar
Thanks for pointing that out to me. I’m not the best one to be writing on this blog, but I there didn’t seem to be anyone w/ a counter viewpoint. Thought I’d share my 2 cents.
My copy of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ is not copyright either! So it too must be the Word of God!!!
Haha, yeah, it’s pure… since 1611… when people touched it.
proof?
DIck.Head. Seriously. “Proof that the 1611 KJV wasn’t exactly the same before 1611″. Twat!
From the series of: “If english was good enough for Jesus it is good enough for me”
it comes now “Proof that the 1611 KJV wasn’t writen 2000 years ago”
My favorite: If the King James Bible was good enough for Paul, it is good enough for me”.
Sounds dumb, but It means that the AV is the exact English version of what Paul wrote, not that Paul actually read the English. This comes from the belief that God is capable of making this happen and did so.
The English language is the perfect language to do this. For example, the reason for including the ye, thee’s, thou’s, thines and eth and est ending is the only way to make an exact representation of the Gk and Heb. The AV (KJV) traslators also used the modern words “you” and “yours”, which carry a different meaning than Ye, Thee, Thou, etc. No other modern English version does this and therefore looses meaning in a passage.
The adage dumb as dirt certainly applies here.
The first copy right laws in the US were established roughly 1790.
All books pre-1790 are obviously the word of god?
This kid is dumber than a bag of hammers. I like the “relatively uneducated country ass white kid” inflection in his voice. His mannerisms are that of a recovery drug addict.
I think he has something wrong with his brain, and I mean that in observation, not because of what he believes. Not a doctor, but he might be autistic or something. He’ll probably end up on a corner holding a sign and never shutting up about Jesus. He’s got some racing thoughts there about his bible, surprised he didn’t go past a minute while he got that out of himself.
Yeah, copyright its not a real valid point.
Hey, Boys and Girls! This young man is a fine example of evolution! He is the result of years and years of southern inbreeding.
doesn’t look inbred to me.

Vuvuzela, ACTIVATE.
I don’t know, it sounds to me like he’s taking his pastor’s sermon from the previous week and just rehashing it. The points he’s trying to make sound really disconnected, like he’s retelling a story he heard someone else tell. I can’t bring myself to go to his YT channel; has anyone there tried to correct his facts on copyright or the history of the KJV?
His facts maybe askew, but the point is that modern versions copyright there bibles because they treat it like any other book and do not let it out to the people. The major reason for copyright is to protect vested $ interests, no? Bible publishers are saying either, “we have the rights to Gods Word”, or “we really don’t have God’s Word, therefore we copyright it”. There is no law that says you have to copyright anything.
I guess the argument of copyright is a moot point, but one that makes sense to Christians that question if anyone should have the moral right to copyright God’s Word. In Britain copyright probably protected it from the hands of Catholics which is a big reason for the 1611 translation. The AV came about after and in response to the publication of the Douay/Rhiems bible.
What in heck are you talking about?
I was responding to JT’s comment. Is there anything in particular you don’t understand? Be glad to expound.
In Britain, the KVJ is covered by a perpetual copyright, and therefore is not the Word of God in that jurisdiction.
And having now watched the video, he has no idea what “copyright” means, does he?
Except in the UK (i.e. where it originated) where it’s under perpetual Crown copyright:

Hey, could somebody bring out the hand written originals so we could do a comparison? I am not aware of where they are kept, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are in the Vatican basement under lock and key(most likely thrown away a long time ago). What I am sure of is that this brain-washed hillbilly doesn’t have them! I am surprised that he can even read……do they teach reading in the Ozarks?
Who needs the originals when we have EXACT, INSPIRED copies?!
Inspired by? May I have the inspired author’s name who created this exact(?), uncopyrighted(?), inspirational(?) blight on the landscape of literature? Wouldn’t you like to see what may have been interpolated or inserted in later versions, that may not have existed in the originals. As I said before, you’d have better luck getting back copies of “boys illustrated” from the Vatican than actually getting them to haul out their oldest version of “god’s word”! But it sure would be fun to see them…….the bibles that is! I hope you don’t think like Ma and Pa Kettles’ dumb ole grandson……please tell me you don’t!
Would rather think like Ma and Pa Kettle and grandson than to believe the Vatican has a monopoly on the Word of God. Do you think the Vatican would have more power to keep secret God’s Word than God would have to make it available? The Vatican: a house of men in costumes.
Is God not powerful enough to keep his word throughout the centuries? To this you would probably say, Yes….but obviously believe that he didn’t. Poor little ol’ weak God.
“Poor little ol’ weak God”
You forgot to add imaginary to your description.
I don’t have any here. Use your own.
Ten pounds of stupid in a five pound sack.
Is it just coincidence he has a southern drawl?
I don’t think position of birth relative to the Mason-Dixon line is conclusive evidence of inbred dumb-hickery, but I suspect there might be a concomitant increase in risk of it as one travels South…
Mason-Dixon line??!! I wouldn’t want to say what some Canadians think of all those SOUTH of our border! The anti-Obama political crap that does filter up here makes us wonder if it is either too hot down there or just maybe somrthing is terribly wrong with the drinking water! Considering that the citizens of Dumbfuckistan(where ever you find a plethora of Republicans) compare Obama’s health care initiatives with communism and the devil’s work, it makes some of us up here quite concerned that we could be witnessing the eventual demise of America. I really would like to be handing out Rapture tickets to these “inbred dumb-hicks”!
Please, let’s not have yet another round of “Oh, look how stupid Southerners are,” m’kay? I’ve found that dumbassery is equally distributed across all populations.
I think my favorite part of this is the c.o.p.s t-shirt he is wearing.
so what has that got to do with anything he’s saying?
Childhood indoctrination meets teenage omniscience. Let us hope for his sake that this young man’s mental development does not arrest at this stage.
Hope isn’t much more effective than prayer, unfortunately. It just sounds less fantasy-based.
Unbelievable!
Does anyone know how to get back the first 42 years of my life following this crap?
Sadly, no. That’s the problem with reality: it’s not magic.
The copyright is not the reason I read it, but it is the only bible version I use. It has been good enough for many for many years, it led me to Jesus, so it works, it’s not broken why fix it?
so it works, it’s not broken why fix it?
More importantly, how could you tell if its broken?
Sunny Day brings up the main point here. If you only ever use one Bible, how can you ever tell if it’s the best one or even correct? The KJV is poetic, sure, but it is hardly accurate. There are reasons scholars use a variety of translations.
Uh? I tought all bibles were the word of God, and they are were copied with an extreme accuracy over 2.000 years; it can’t be that inaccurate /sarcasm off
The little fellas is correct, The KJV1611 is the actual Words of Jesus.. all the others have been corrupted by subtracting words, turning genders from female to male, many “ed”s added to words, scriptures missing.. I have both versions, and KJV1611 is complete.. there is a total difference in the Bibles and by the difference in words, this creates new meanings, so it obviously is not what Jesus had said.
