Ken Pulliam over at Why I De-Converted from Evangelical Christianity published a coupled of posts full of “music for apostates.” The last one contained ACDC’s Highway to Hell. That works, because I tend to think that ACDC’s continuing career is the best evidence yet against a benevolent God.

Let’s punk it up a bit, shall we?

Bad Religion: “Welcome to the New Dark Ages”

Favorite “band suddenly getting deep” lyric:

“Because we’re animals – with golden rules
Who… who can’t be moved by rational views”

NOFX: “Leaving Jesusland”

Favorite “band being meaner that it has to be” lyric:

“I hate to generalize,
but have you seen the thighs,
most haven’t seen their genitalia in a while.”

Alright, one non-punk Jesus song, just so long as it’s one that would piss off the rednecks I grew up with:

Ian Moore: “Muddy Jesus”

So what’s your favorite heathen music?

Comments

  1. Sundog says:

“Your God, Not Mine” by Icehouse, from the as-yet unreleased Bi-Polar Poems album.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNi2tJ7H7FM

  2. dutchhobbit says:

Hmmm… the first two videos wont play. But I don’t really listen to heathen music, it does not really mention god at all.

  3. Sarah says:

    Judith by A Perfect Circle!

    • Confused says:

I was about to say the Noose by APC cos I prefer the sound of that album, but Judith does have the line “fuck your God” in it.

      <3 APC

  4. Bender says:

That works, because I tend to think that ACDC’s continuing career is the best evidence yet against a benevolent God.

Blasphemy!!! How dare you criticize one the awesomests bands in the history of music?

    • japanther says:

      Because they suck ;)

I know why his voice is so raspy… he’s always yelling and screaming because he is angry about his testicles never having dropped.

      • Michael says:

You’re just jealous of his falsetto. AC/DC is amazing. At the very least, “Highway to Hell” is way better than any of the three songs picked for this post.

Also, if you’re going to dismiss all bands with high-pitched male vocals, you’re inevitably going to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Unless you really don’t like rock, I guess.

        • japanther says:

Sarcastic comment was sarcastic. Don’t worry about it man, I actually like getting drunk and singing along to shit like AC/DC and Led Zep and Judas Priest… And I am glad that you prompted me to look up the exact definition of falsetto, as I had been improperly using the term before (but not anywhere in this page).

And if you think I don’t like rock… scroll down some? And really, who throws bathwater out of dangerous heights these days? (besides Eric Clapton’s babysitter)

  5. vjack says:

I think XTC’s “Dear God” will always be my favorite non-metal atheist song.

  6. EBrock says:
    • Revyloution says:

Freewill was more of an Objectivists anthem. If you want some good atheist Rush, you need Faithless from the latest album Snakes and Arrows. Armor and Sword from the same album has a nice anti-theist message.

I’ve been a huge Rush fan for years. I think the last album is far more aggressive to religion than any of their prior work, and that’s a good thing. Plus it just rocked.

    • Arash says:

I agree with Revyloution, Rush’s song Faithless is my Atheist Anthem. “A guiding star beats a spirit in the sky”

Also, I recently watched Rush’s newly released documentary called Beyond the Lighted Stage, and there’s a scene where you can catch Alex Lifeson (guitarist) reading Hitchens’ God is not Great.

Huge Rush fan too. I’m going to the Los Angeles show next month — can’t wait!

  7. Ken Pulliam says:

    Daniel,

I like ‘em. I had never heard any of these before. I am a child of the 70′s so if’s it not Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Clapton, Eagles, Hendrix, Sabbath, then I probably haven’t heard it. I really like Ian Moore’s song. I am going to have check out that album.

I have more heathen music to post but I don’t want to reveal it yet. Each Saturday for the forseeable future I will be posting more music for apostates..

  8. Siberia says:

    Wee.

Drowning Pool’s Sermon is one I’ve been singing from the top of my lungs for a few days:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QotFHDDktZE
To the endless chagrin of everyone who has to actually listen to me. Bonus points for the comment war on the YT page.

    Then there’s The Kovenant…

    Neon -
Let me be your neon god
We’ve got brand new illusions for your plastic souls
We’re all wired up and ready to go
    Because gravity means nothing now
A man made messiah of concrete and steel
    Instant salvation through your t.v.screen
    Let me be your god….

    and

    Via Negativa -
Why are you afraid of something you’re not even sure exists?
I am the maze of God… I am the true face of fraud
Embrace the pain, and I will lead you to another heaven
For who are you to belive in another paradise than mine?

    and

    Jihad -
Get down on your knees and feed the illusion
Get down on your knees and prolong the delusion
Superstition is the religion of the feeble mind
Liberty and Justice – The Illusions of mankind
A dogmatic expression in every direction
There is no redemption in divine intervention
The world is a disease that cannot be cured
The truth is a voice that cannot be heard

    Among others. *headbangs*

  9. Christianity is Stupid by Negativland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zc2rHN4SQA

    • japanther says:

Thanks for this one. I was barely too young when this thing was getting college-famous. This art damaged music is summed up perfectly in the comments section:

I can remember hearing this song on KHSU back in 1989, and laughing until tears were running down my face. Actually coming out and saying Christianity is stupid is akin to pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.

    • japanther says:

Your post totally made me reconsider Jethro Tull’s “Hymn 43″. I had always assumed it was a Christian song when I was growing up, hearing it on classic rock radio via christian parents.

      I was wrong!

Oh father high in heaven — smile down upon your son
whose busy with his money games — his women and his gun.
      Oh Jesus save me!
And the unsung Western hero killed an Indian or three
and made his name in Hollywood
to set the white man free.
      Oh Jesus save me!
If Jesus saves — well, He’d better save Himself
from the gory glory seekers who use His name in death.
      Oh Jesus save me!
I saw him in the city and on the mountains of the moon –
His cross was rather bloody –
He could hardly roll His stone.
      Oh Jesus save me!

      • Myxini says:

yeah, B-side Aqualung has a lot of religion-skeptical themes
        (from the album liner notes)
1: In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him.
2: And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord over all the earth when it was suited to Man.
3: And on the seven millionth day Man rested and did lean heavily on his God and saw that it was good.
4: And Man formed Aqualung of the dust of the ground, and a host of others likened unto his kind.
5: And these lesser men Man did cast into the void. And some were burned; and some were put apart from their kind.
6: And Man became the God that he had created and with his miracles did rule over all the earth.
7: But as all these things did come to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on within all men: even within Aqualung.
8: And man saw it not.
9: But for Christ’s sake he’d better start looking.

        • japanther says:

That is really awesome. I wish I had noticed, and paid attention earlier. I’m a huge super nerd about music, I get really excited when a well informed thread like this gets going.

LOL @ Seven Millionth Day. Seems like a jab at Day-age creationism.

I must admit, though I like the song and the other singles from the album, I still have no idea wtf an aqualung is.

          • Myxini says:

Aqualung is/was a brand of Scuba gear. and the character is described as a homeless man with asthma, ‘and you snatch your rattling last breaths with deep-sea diver sounds’

Ian crams a lot of hidden meanings into his lyrics, so check out cupofwonder.com for some of the really deeper stuff, or just to figure out the 60′s british slang.

Another that’s very good, recorded during Aqualung but released a lot later, is “Lick Your Fingers Clean” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21jb_bXwXMA A variation on it was released on Warchild as “Two Fingers,” but I like the original version more.

  12. Vhyrrimyr says:

    Rush – Faithless
I don’t have faith in faith
    I don’t believe in belief
    You can call me faithless
But I still cling to hope
    And I believe in love
And that’s faith enough for me

Rush – Ghost of a Chance
    I don’t believe in destiny
Or the guiding hand of fate
    I don’t believe in forever
Or love as a mystical state
I don’t believe in the stars or the planets
    Or angels watching from above
    But I believe there’s a ghost of a chance
We can find someone to love
    And make it last

    • Revyloution says:

      Rush FTW~!

I still hold that they are the #1 atheist band, even if they won’t claim the title. More than simple god bashing, they employ clever logic, history, and inspire a world without religion.

  13. GaR says:

    Black Sabbath – Cardinal Sin

    As regards Catholic indiscretions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42HmeTWpYW0

    Iced Earth – Stand Alone

A general “think for yourself” number. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0E1rSS5Bkw

    Slayer – New Faith

Extra vitriolic lyrics for the extreme heathen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQMiPM8U0QQ

  14. AnderEgg says:

    Nine Inch Nails: “Heresy”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DmGJrrLCQE

“Your god is dead / and no one cares”

  15. japanther says:

Spoonboy – “What You Want” (weird anti-music video, but catchy instant classic song)

Hope I did the html tags right, will post more in a bit.

  16. japanther says:

Here is an indie hip hop gem from Sage Francis, especially the second half

Sage Francis – Sun Vs Moon

  17. DDM says:

Bad Religion is by far my favorite heathenistic band.

  18. Basically any “satanic” black metal . . .

  19. japanther says:

Similar to the EXCELLENT Symphony of Science music, I always took The Flaming Lips, “Do You Realize?” to mean this:

    1) You only live once
    2) All the scary things can be explained (the sun doesn’t go down, etc)
    3) Love each other, now

Maybe it even roughly parallels the bus campaign “There probably is no god so relax and have a good life.” (forgive me if I misquoted slightly.)

  20. Mike says:
  21. japanther says:

Jeffrey Lewis is an anti-folk musician, lyrical genius, and atheist. His wit and comedy are balanced with social commentary in an unbelievably natural way.

    Jeffrey Lewis – Life

Jeffrey Lewis – You Don’t Have To Be a Scientist To Do Experiments On Your Own Heart

And also, here he is on the subject of punk, for those interested…

Jeffrey Lewis – anti-folk complete history of punk rock 1950-1977

Jeffrey Lewis – Punk is Dead (A cover of a Crass song (early anarchist gutterpunks… late 70′s early 80′s)

  22. japanther says:

How about some heathen kids music? I remember the buzz that this song caused when all of the fundies and creationists got a hold of it. It’s funny how such a sweet little innocent song for kids can completely undermine a parenting style.

They Might Be Giants – Science Is Real

TMBG have released several full albums of this stuff, and also continue to write albums for adults too.

Has anybody else ever craved a kidz-bop cover album of black metal songs or even gangsta rap? I just found out my wife is pregnant. If it hasn’t been recorded by the time my kid can read, I promise I’ll do it.

  23. Jordan says:

Béla Bartók and Hector Berlioz were both atheists, but I cringe at grouping them together with “musicians” like NOFX and AC/DC simply because they didn’t believe in any gods. :P

  24. japanther says:

Psychedelic rock went dead for a long time, but in the 80′s a resurgence was largely due to England’s Spacemen 3. Spacemen 3 write songs about heroin, love, and/or Jesus. Sometimes it seems they have the faithiest attitude, but I really think they are using Jesus as a metaphor, not as a liberal interpretation of the Bible. After they broke up, the band Spiritualized emerged from the ashes, often covering the earlier songs too. But song titles like “No God, Only Religion” and lyrics like “Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose”, should make it clear what side of the aisle they are on.

Spacemen 3 – Walkin’ With Jesus

Spiritualized – Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space

Their music inspired me during my own deconversion process, jesus references and all. Even their standard encore cover of “Oh Happy Day” seemed to be taking drugs with me (:

  25. japanther says:

Digital Leather – (Jesus was just a) Photo Lie

Synth-driven DIY art punk. This song is an indictment of Christianity, and an invitation to laugh at silly beliefs as soon as they turn around. (Can’t be too careful when blaspheming, they might react violently :)

  26. japanther says:

I couldn’t find a proper video or even streaming music of this song. However, somebody used it for the background of their youtube video of their cat and dog fighting. Pretty funny stuff. The lead singer, E, once said “I’m in the Jehovah’s Witness Protection Program” I’m not sure if he stole that line from somewhere, but either way good shit.

    Eels – Jehovah’s Witness

  27. Jim says:
  28. ryedo says:

XTC’s Dear God (already been mentioned) has to be my favourite. Quite like one of Kate Bush’s early demos: Disbelieving Angel.
    http://www.dongrays.com/kate-bush/mp3/phoenix/TheDisbelievingAngel.mp3

Oh… and Dance of the Cuckoos by Laurel & Hardy:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dance-Of-The-Cuckoos/dp/B001LXVHJ8

Well, OK, it’s not exactly an heathen tune but, for some reason, it always reminds me of Christians – especially Pentecostals

  29. Danger says:

Cool points for BR and NOFX in the same post! However, we have to retract some points for the quote “band suddenly getting deep.” I don’t know if anyone noticed, but Bad Religion has been making music about exactly this for thirty years (30!). Wow. Now I feel old.

  30. Siberia says:

So many new bands to check out on… *happy sigh*

  31. Hannah C says:

Bad Religion will always be my favorite. =]
Saw them on their 30 year anniversary tour, and it was amazing!

  32. japanther says:

Bad Religion has been a huge part of my life too. I’m glad to see so many people appreciate them.

Their theme song is still my favorite. This video has the lyrics too. They did like three or four versions of this song in the early 80′s… the version I like best had no lyrics to it though. But whatever, still a brilliant song.

    Bad Religion – Bad Religion

  33. Nox says:

My favorite heathen song is probably “Opiate” by Tool (as in “religion is the opiate of the masses”)

“Choices always were a problem for you
What you need is someone strong to guide you
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
What you need is someone strong to guide you…
Like me, Like me, Like me, Like me
If you want to get your soul to heaven
Trust in me, now don’t you judge or question
You are broken now, but faith can heal you
Just do everything i tell you to do
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
What you need is someone strong to guide you
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
Let me lay my holy hand a, hand upon you
    My god’s will
    Becomes me
    When he speaks
    He speaks through me
    He has needs
    Like i do
    We both want
    To rape you
Jesus christ, why don’t you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your light, now
Jesus christ, why don’t you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your lies, now
If you want to get your soul to heaven
Trust in me, now don’t you judge or question
You are broken now, but faith can heal you
Just do everything i tell you to do
Jesus christ, why don’t you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your light, now
Jesus christ, why don’t you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your lies”

Honorable mention for “Heresy” by Nine Inch Nails, “Godless” by UPO, and “Judith” by A Perfect Circle.

  34. japanther says:

***TRUST ME, YOU REALLY NEED TO TRY THIS! EPIC WIN!***

Okay, this one is slightly complicated, but SO worth it. You need to play 2 videos at the same time, but only watch the first video (the second one is a song that will make the background for the video).

    1) Get this video ready in one tab: Holy Laughter Video Go ahead and press play, because there is just text at the beginning anyways.

    2) Get this ready in another tab: The Sonics – Don’t You Just Know It

    3) When the song ends, just start the song again…

It’s just fucking perfect. I laugh so hard every time… I don’t know why I came up with this game, but I do have quite a few youtube videos that sync well with completely different songs. I’m too lazy to actually edit this together, but it really should be done for great justice. In fact, I think this comment should be posted by daniel… people need to see this.

  35. japanther says:
  36. Kodie says:

I try racking my brain for stuff. I don’t have as diverse exposure to music as I could, but then I remembered Serve Yourself by John Lennon, which I always get a kick out of. I went on a little research and found it was a parody in response to Bob Dylan’s Gotta Serve Somebody.

This is the version I was familiar with:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXd25Jqi7G0&feature=related
But I really liked this piano version with extra verses and lyrics. It’s recorded as a demo so the piano’s too loud – he says at the end of it, “too loud,”:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPJ3JGABak0

    • japanther says:

This was a very unexpected surprise. Thank you for showing me this! I can’t believe I hadn’t heard it before!

  37. Paul Booker says:

When I think of heathen punk rock… Nobody does it better than Crass…<ahref="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crass_Records"… In 1978 they produced a song that was so anti-religious that it took them years to actually get it put to vinyl…”Reality Asylum”… <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_HOYk9ED9Q"
I’ll tell you, the mid-eighties NOFX and Bad Religion sound is just a little too clean for my tastes… Predictable verse/chorus chord changes and tastefully distorted guitars these days just seems more MTV than it does counterculture….
And predictably, now you have evangelical punk bands who are copying that sound, but using it for the purpose of spreading the ‘message’.

  38. japanther says:

Jay Reatard – It Aint Gonna Save Me This man released like a million albums and songs in over a dozen bands and solo projects. His epic output was unbelievably consistent: amazing. He died this year, at the age of 29, and this is one of his last songs he ever recorded. Powerpop meets DIY Punk. This is for fans of The Exploding Hearts, Buzzcocks, Black Lips, Dead Boys, the Damned… It’s another one of those songs that always reminds me of Christianity, though it might not be about it.

  39. japanther says:

    Brenda Ray – Star Light
Here is another song that invokes the beauty of science and nature without dumbing down the experience with a deity. This is reggae/dub from Jamaica, both recent and obscure.

Speaking of dumbing it down… Bantam Rooster – Dumb it Down This two man garage-punk band cranked out a parting masterpiece with their third LP, ‘Fuck All Ya’ll’. Once again, this might not be exactly an atheist song, but it always makes me think of Christians.

  40. Lee says:

    Filter – Dose:

    I believe in something else
    now go bother someone else
stick your fingers in your book
    take a better second look
    you crook
I hate it when you breach my space
and I hate it when you preach your case
    and you should go down
    down
    save someone else.

I think I should warn you
    I think I should tell
    what you’ve been doing
it makes you go to hell

I hate it when you preach your case
it makes me want to stick my dick in
    your face
    and you should go down
    down
    save someone else.

can your preacher bring me down?
    oh, thats what I thought.

I hate it when you breach my space
and I hate it when you preach your case
    and you should go down
    down
    save someone else.

Also this from the Porcupine Tree song Prodigal:

I tried to find myself a better way
I got religion but I went astray
They took my money and I lost my faith

  41. Stupid Idea says:

Harvey Danger – Meetings with Remarkable Men

I had a lovely brunch with Jesus Christ.
He said, “two words about inanity: fundamental christianity.”
    The food was very nice.
But then He had to go and die for my sins and stick my ass with the check.

  42. japanther says:

Ok it’s getting late. Time to get REALLY irreverent. There was a band from Chicago named The Frogs. They are an enigma. Offensive as hell, but somehow mellow. Anyways, they need to be heard to be appreciated.

The Frogs – I’ve Got Drugs With the infamous ‘Priest with a yeast infection’ lyric. How many of you have smoked pages of the bible when you ran out of rolling papers? The book of mormon is free on 1-800 numbers… was it just me?

The Frogs – God Is Gay Lucifer said, ‘Jesus Be STRAIGHT!’

The Frogs – Homos His facial expressions make it even better.

The Frogs – April Fools (Had the Change Done at the Shop) Hands down the most outrageous song they ever did… Cool video too, jesus sings part of it!

  43. GaR says:

Iron Maiden – For the Greater Good of God

“you know religion has a lot answer for” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns-fQRnm9sk

    Black Sabbath – Psychophobia

“think you’re loved but there’s no one there at all” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt7ktyGZJ7Q

Iced Earth – Disciples of the Lie

    “a holy predator, a wolf in sheep’s skin” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMZkTamifAY

  44. MahouSniper says:

What Would Jesus Do? by Axis of Awesome.

    • Michael says:

If you want to go the comedy route, then surely “Ten Foot Cock and a Few Hundred Virgins” by Tim Minchin wins out?

  45. dsdquilts says:

    Rush – Roll the Bones

Faith is cold as ice –
Why are little ones born only to suffer
    For the want of immunity
    Or a bowl of rice?
Well, who would hold a price
On the heads of the innocent children
    If there’s some immortal power
    To control the dice?

  46. WMDKitty says:

For me it’s “Imagine” by John Lennon. And now I have a shit-ton of new music to check out — thx, gaiz!

    *happy dansdansdans for new music*

  47. japanther says:

Forgot about this one. From the guys who brought you that 90′s semi-hit ‘Detachable Penis’, comes a song about our lord.

King Missile – Jesus Was Way Cool

  48. Alex says:

    ELP – The Only Way

People has stirred moved by the word.
Kneel at the shrine, deceived by the wine.
How was the earth conceived? Infinite space.
Is there such a place? You must believe in the human race.

Can you believe, God makes you breathe.
Why did he lose six million Jews.

Touched by the wings, fears angel brings
Sad winter storm, grey autumn dawn
Who looks on life itself, who lights your way?
Only you can say. How can you just obey?

Don’t heed the word, now that you’ve heard.
Don’t be afraid: man is man made.
And when the hour comes, don’t turn away.
Face the light of day. And do it your way.
    It’s the only way.

    http://bit.ly/cW8SNI
    ——————————–
    Tom Waits – Chocolate Jesus

Well it’s got to be a chocolate Jesus
    Make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
    Keep me satisfied

  49. Lee says:

    Loquat – Rocks:

    Anything by Deicide:

    There’s also Atheist:

    http://www.last.fm/music/Atheist

  50. Travis says:

Love all the Rush love here. And I enjoyed the nod to Slayer, even though that’s not their best song, they’re still plenty blasphemous. Ironic considering that Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo are both Catholic.

Some of my favorite ‘heathen’ music is metal, so there are plenty of bands out there whose lyrics attack religion and promote Atheism.

    Nevermore – Poison Godmachine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4DSarGZrNc

Amon Amarth, well known for utilizing Norse mythology and Viking imagery lyrics. They use a Viking raid as a backdrop for Atheism.

And now some more death metal to close out this post. Vital Remains is probably has the most vitriolic lyrics against Christianity that I’ve heard in music in general. The song is sung by Glenn Benton of Deicide, who I personally think is pretty fucking crazy; you’d have to be if you burn an upside down cross on your forehead. But the music is fantastic with its mixture of brutality, melody and virtuosity to give it an almost classical feel in some parts.

    Streetlight Manifesto!!
Their whole album “Somewhere in the between” is full of awesome heathen-y metaphors.
The most obvious being “Down, Down, Down to Mephisto’s Cafe”

“Way back when the prophecies began
Do you think they really had a master plan
Or were they merely writing fables, stories?
I don’t know but it has occurred to me
The punishment that they threaten constantly
It’s only real if they could just convince me

So fuck the flocks of sheep that keep amassing masses
Asses being led so far astray
And I won’t claim to believe the things I read
    Black books or agenda magazine
I’d rather see in shades of gray

    Now everybody’s telling taller tales
And I don’t know who to believe
Ok, if your father really loves you more
    What about the other families?”

I like the Austin Louge Lizards with “Jesus Loves Me (but he can’t stand you)”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbvrRct-TXc
I know you smoke, I know you drink that brew
    I can’t abide a sinner like you.
God can’t either, that’s why I know it to be true,
Jesus loves me but he can’t stand you

and the Gershwins and Heyward’s “It Ain’t Necessarily So”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZV5kSEl-aw&feature=related
    It ain’t necessarily so (3x)
The things that your libel to read in the bible
    It ain’t necessarily so

Methus’lah lived nine hundred years (3x)
But what good is livin’ when no gal will give in
To no man what’s nine hundred years!

    Chance by Farkus

    Is there truth in destiny
Or can my will change everything
    Maybe fate’s a hopeless dream
    The lazy rely on

    I have nothing I’m concerned
    But that’s everything I’ve earned
If I stomp my two feet hard enough
    Will I get my way

    Will I take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move or only wait around
    Complacent as I let escape
    Another chance

Should I keep my fingers crossed
Quote a poem by Robert Frost
Or beg a body on a cross
    To find it, find it

I close my eyes and make a wish
At least the losers took their risk
    Inspiration’s for the amateur
    Sleep through dawn today

    Will I take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move or only wait around
    Complacent as I let escape
    Another chance

    Without your slogans
    Without your gods
    I will make this happen
And this will be the day

    I will take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move, no I won’t wait around
    Complacent as I let escape
    Another chance

David Bazan has a new record about his leaving Christianity. I haven’t heard it yet, but he is a great song writer.

I’m also a fan of Meshuggah’s humanist machine metal.
