Basil Marceaux

Oh man, this is too good not to post.

I’m thinking this is just a crazy guy they pulled off the street. Then again, maybe not.

He’s even bribing people on this website:

VOTE FOR ME AND IF I WIN I WILL IMMUNE YOU FROM ALL STATE CRIMES FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE!

And here’s Basil speaking on gun control:

He likes that location… a lot.

Apparenlty there’s a new mosque attempting to be built in Tennesee and they interviewed someone on the radio.

His reason for protesting that day?

    “Because we’re christians!!”

    Quality there.

  2. Grimm says:

Terrifyingly, he lives in the ‘burbs of my hometown, and I know precisely where that jet is.

    *sighs*

    But he’s amusing, anyway.

  3. yahweh says:

There are just so many things in these 2 clips to snicker at but I think my favorite is in the 2nd clip he says twice (near the end) “I’m Basil Marceaux dot com”

Good to see the tea party folk are starting to learn that fancy internets thing.

  4. Yoav says:

At least he’s honest about wanting nutcases and murderers to be allowed (or is it required) to have guns. He also seem to think that dot com is some sort of a title. This election season is getting funnier every day.

Aren’t you afraid that exposing more people to Mr. Marceaux will result in a lot more votes for him? Having seen his fine campaign ads, I would certainly vote for him if I lived in Tennessee. Of course, I live in Texas, so my motivation to see Mr. Marceaux in office in Tennessee might be suspect.

  6. coffeejedi says:

This guy’s “campaign team” is a joke; a bunch of douche-bag hipster “documentary filmmakers” playing him for the lulz. On one hand, it’s funny cuz, well, look at him! On the other, I kind of feel that an old deluded man is being taken advantage of.

  7. fearglic says:

I cant believe that this man is the Governor. I love democracy but surely something has gone seriously wrong here… Mind you we have a few nutters elected in The 6 Counties in Ireland.

Some clarifications based on the timing of this video and some comments:

    1. These videos are about 3-4 weeks old and were posted to the Internet before the Republican gubernatorial primary election on August 5 2010.
    2. Basil was a Republican gubernatorial candidate for Tennessee. He is not the governor of Tennessee.
    3. Basil lost the Republican primary on August 5 2010 as he only received 0.5% of the vote. The Republican candidate is Bill Haslam.

  9. kat says:

ya’ know what …. in spite of his absolute nutterocity, i kind of like seeing that ANYONE can run for office in the US. i know sarah palin proves this to us on a weekly basis, but nevertheless, it is great to see people trying. (and i know you have to have a bankroll to run for office, but still… the thought is there.)
and i’m even happier to know that he only got 0.5% of the vote (himself and his closest family and friends, i assume?).
sometimes americans prove to you they’re not all -that- stupid. sometimes.

  10. Michael says:

I especially like how he says that if a group of gunmen took the capitol (or wherever governors are), he would willingly submit to their rule.

  11. Melissa says:

From the linked site above, under the heading “what (sic) important”:

“See why dental is not in most plans a tooth aches hurt more than a back aches and no teeths depresses people.”

What a great platform! I can see why you had to post this…With his 13 3/4 years of school, he’s just priceless.

  12. Yoav says:

His site is hilarious. It look like something put together by someone running for 5th grade class president.

  13. kjpweb says:

Astonishingly enough – he didn’t make it. Equally astonishing, that he amassed 3,500 votes!!
That’ll free him up to run for president!

  14. Entropist says:

The journalists here are just as stupid. They state at the beginning they chose from six candidates, all belonging to the two major parties. This would’ve been the perfect opportunity to put on a third-party candidate, a Green– even a Libertarian– anyone besides this idiot.

Haslam won the election in the end however, endorsed by teabaggers, and has said some rather gobsmackingly idiotic things himself.

Just google the phrase “Overton Window.”

  15. Felix says:

This day I really appreciate that in my country the parties chooses their candidates by vote before they get to announce their candidacy for that party. On the other hand, we never get to see the kooks and loons and the just really embarrassingly stupid who try to run, with the exception of the tiny splinter parties that were founded to promote some loon anyway.
