I think the “agenda” is that it’s ok to be gay. Christians do not agree that it’s ok to be gay and don’t want their children exposed to information which may make them change their minds about some of their classmates or their classmates’ parents, or even accept themselves as gay if they are. Stories about gay love and parenting are “sneaky” in that it undermines the default intolerance which is not allowed at school due to its religious foundation and direct opposition to the civil rights of gay people. Teachers may choose to use these stories for a classroom lesson, or a child may accidentally take a story out of the library and read it! It has two cute penguins on the cover, and how far into the book, the child discovers they are both boys and love each other and raise a baby penguin together; it’s not obvious from the cover this is a gay story about gay penguins, that the child was taught at home to avoid reading. Stories are not usually marked like food packaging, 0g trans fats! or 0 gayness, enjoy reading if you are Christian!
The fuss these two put up about “the gay agenda” circumventing their intolerance is pretty funny considering they are on some web program attempting to circumvent the gay agenda with a lot of alarmed babble, their beliefs are harmed or oppressed somehow, through teaching their children the opposite of what they are learning at home in order to make this world a little better for everyone. Christians are all the time attempting to silence gays, or the general idea that homosexuality is ok and deserves the same rights and privileges as other people, and it upsets them how many people are “sick” and believe homosexuals are ok, that they try to spread the good news, it’s no longer an abomination, you’re not sick, you’re not sinful, there’s nothing wrong with it.
Wow, those “gay activists” are so “sneaky”! They are having books placed in school libraries, the catalogues of which are available online, and getting things into notices that students bring home but parents may not read. Sneaky, indeed!
I’m obviously being sarcastic in what I wrote above. But what isn’t funny is that these people regard the presentation of other views and other ways of life than their own as somehow making school “less safe for” conservative Christians. That is simply disgusting, in my opinion. Freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom to never have to encounter anyone who doesn’t think or live the way you do.
This is an excellent point, and one of the things that first pushed me away from my evangelical roots.
To maintain a ‘godly’ lifestyle required such careful barriers against seeing or learning anything that might conflict with the belief system, that I began to wonder why Satan’s version of the truth was so much more compelling than God’s.
That’s probably true. They don’t think their faith is really so fragile, but that satan makes too much sense to ignore, and who pays? The children. The adults know or seem to know how to keep from satan’s attraction, but they can’t protect their kids at school from satan, and the schools are ignoring their priorities by allowing satan to get comfortable in public schools, to go so far as to assert that there’s nothing wrong with things satan likes; it makes it too attractive to children to sever their faith in god, because it makes more sense and nobody is howling any warnings to them at school, and they are just trying to fit in and not be weird uptight wrong-headed Christians who believe nonsense. That is a lot for a child to handle.
They are suppose to have faith in their god to protect their chid from all harm. God is supposed to save them and their household. What has happened to their belief?
Even children have free will. Free will turns out to be the most dangerous thing of all. If you are offered heaven or hell, you “freely” choose heaven. If you add c. neither, that’s just satan trying to fool you that there’s no hell, because there is a hell. Everyone who says there’s no hell is going there, it’s hard to reinforce this in your children if you have to take your eyeballs off them for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. That’s satan time. Once kids learn about choice #c, it’s that much more difficult to revert them every afternoon to prefer a.
Their god is supposed to work out all things for good … if their kids are predestined to go heaven.
Maybe deep in their hearts they know free will from their experiences is greater than salvation, greater than their god and making the promises taught to them from the bible void or untrue.
Semi-related, that’s one of the biggest reasons I became an atheist. That and prayer.
If God supposedly cared so much that he would send his ONLY FUCKING SON to die on a cross, then why won’t he send a couple angels? Not to die on a cross. No, just to appear to all the atheists, hindus, buddists, muslims, jews, etc. Why does God have to be so stealthy? Why is faith an important trait? It could be that through having to trust God, Christians somehow become closer to him, and the amount of closeness they gain is apparently worth sending the 5+billion non-Christians alive today to burn for eternity.
It could be that. Or, it could be something made up to control people, just like the other 1000 dead or dying religions.
Same thing with prayer and so called “miracles”.
If God answers your prayer, praise him!
If God doesn’t answer your prayer, its not in his will.
No wonder Christians are encouraged to pray constantly. It creates a growing illusion. “God, please help me pass this class”. “God, please help me get a job” etc.
People pray for things that will probably, eventually happen. If it doesn’t happen, its just God’s will.
Same thing with people who have near-death experiences, or have friends who almost die.
If you have a stroke, or heart attack, or bad car wreck, cancer, then heal, oh, then that’s God. You’ve got people all over America who are real proof that God exists.
You’ve also got plenty of people who didn’t survive. Dead men tell no tales. For every stroke survivor, you’ve got a dozen bodies rotting in the ground.
Faith itself is a large reason I’m an atheist. It’s very telling that they say faith is more important than hard evidence; But unfortunately for them they’ve no other choice but to say that. If there were evidence we’d not need faith to believe, but there is no evidence so we do need faith. There’s only two ways to take that: Faith makes the truth stronger, or faith takes the place of truth.
Blibical christian faith is not without evidences. If jesus were to perform no miracles then he could not claim to come to heal the sick …
Even doubting thomas saw the miracles of jesus according to the bible, yet he doubted. His god appeared to him that he might believed.
“Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe” was about those not witnessing jesus existence after his death, not about miracles or proofs vs evidences that many churches have erroneously taught.
Biblical faith was about faith with evidences. The problem is that the churches are unable to produce any. They foolishly proof the non existence of their god with great pride.
“Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe” was about those not witnessing jesus existence after his death, not about miracles or proofs vs EVIDENCES that many churches have erroneously taught.
Corrected:
“Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe” was about those not witnessing jesus existence after his death, not about miracles or proofs vs FAITH that many churches have erroneously taught.
It’s kind of sneaky how they do this, but the reading agenda is probably taking over your kids’ school. Fundies watch out, your children might think it’s ok to read.
“I don’t really understand why they are afraid of books with a gay agenda.”
Oh, these christians know that their kids are predistined to go to hell. They are trying to save their kids by out maneuvering their god.
Elliot Said: “BTW, does anyone know what the supposed gay agenda is? I always thought it was just not to be beaten to death, or denied employment and housing.”
I know a lot of GLBT folk. From what they say, all they want is to be treated like a regular citizen, like everyone else. They want equal protection under the law (as guaranteed by the Constitution), the right to earn a living wage, and the right to live where they wish. So you nailed it with your list, Elliot.
But more than that, they want the right to marry and be treated as any other married couple. They want the right to see their loved ones in the hospital when they are sick (and to be treated as next-of-kin, including getting information and taking care of the disposition of their loved ones remains should the unthinkable happen).
In short, the right to be treated like a human being instead of an abomination. To be treated like a FIRST CLASS CITIZEN of the United States (or whatever country they live in), instead of a thing.
The Gay Agenda is Equality and equal treatment under the law. I think that’s pretty much what anyone wants.
I like how they say the Gay Agenda tries to use things that look like something else in order to decieve people, such as a propaganda video made to look like a news progra. . . wait a minute!
Oh, and isn’t it nice how that site, “TrueTolerance.org” is made to look like an independent entity…but if you look closely, you see “(c) 2009 Focus on the Family.” Independent indeed!
Here’s what I posted in reply to that video–it’ll have to be approved, so there’s not much hope in the comment seeing the light of day:
“I’m pretty sure that “the gay agenda” is to not be beaten to death or discriminated against in terms of employment. This “agenda” probably also includes the right to marry without interference from godbotherers who think they speak for their deity. I’m also pretty sure that “the gay agenda” is to be able to live a life free from bigotry, mindless violence and the imprecations of such morons as “analyst” Candi Cushman.”
Well, that certainly should prepare kids to fight off the “gay agenda”! What tools will they use to fight off the atheist, Muslim, Jewish, non-conformist, liberal, free thinking, agnostic, anti-christian….etc agendas? Hey kids, don’t forget to pack your guns and knives……just remember to leave your brains at home. Who sponsored this atrocious video……Pat Robertson, maybe? Homophobes are closeted gays wishing to break free but are terribly afraid that g*d may strike them dead for loving the same sex.
Here is a quote from focus on the families website about sexuality “The Trinity is a community of lovers who are relationally active, not static. They are, from all eternity, giving to and receiving from one another in unconditional, loving intimacy. It’s their very nature to do so. It’s who They are!” It would seem that they are saying that God is homosexual. http://www.focusonthefamily.com/marriage/sex_and_intimacy/gods_design_for_sex/inner_life_of_god.aspx

Well, if god and jeebus are one then god is masturbating if they are separate then it’s incest. Having the holy Casper in the room make it even creepier.

mods, please kill this comment. fscking filter!
Wow this video is enraging. Like the very language they use is offensive. No tollerance for christian intollerance? WTF
The smurfs are commies? The end is coming? The end is near? What did you say to filter it?
Socializm spelled correctly will trip the spam filter, because within the word is the name of a famous ED medication.
Socialism
oh cool, cialis.
Oh, THAT’S why it gets filtered?
That’s hilarious, I never noticed.
I had to think about that for a minute and then, AH HA! Hilarious, indeed.
A bit disingenuous, considering The Wedge.
We want to equip you as “pyeerints”

“The gay activists have become very adept at using fun engaging images, cute little pictures of furry animals, to capture children’s imagination…”
And any right-minded Christian should consider that wrong!!!
Brings new meaning to the term “furfag”
It’s fun to look at that picture and realize half the characters are brutally murdered or caused to suffer.
Ha, didn’t think about that! At least they go down surrounded by cute furry animals…
I honestly thought this was a joke for about 1 minute, it seems so poeish.
I know! Like a parody from The Onion!

I don’t really understand why they are afraid of books with a gay agenda.
Everyone knows fundies don’t read books!
It’s kind of sneaky how they do this, but the reading agenda is probably taking over your kids’ school. Fundies watch out, your children might think it’s ok to read.
Burn the books! Burn them lest they fill our innocent children’s heads with nonsense!
Oh, but don’t burn the Bible–that’s totally factual.
They even named the program “Reading Is Fundamental”! This terminology confuses people to assume fundamentalists support reading.

I’m a little surprised no one has mentioned how creepy that guy was. His stare and smile are disturbing.
He is clearly fantasizing about what it would be like to do unmentionable things to cute, furry animals
Thank you. Now people at work is looking funny at me because of the smile in my face.

For an uplifting couterpoint, I just saw this the other day. It shows counter-protest signs at ati-gay rallys. My favorite was one that said this:
Gay Agenda
1. Equality
2. See above
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9gbQKwOh68&feature=player_embedded
I wish we were clever enough to have this evil agenda and put books in school accepting these evil gay people that are ruining the world.

I’ve only one thing to say to these people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WUD-nhsmkw
Perfect
There has GOT to be something more important to report about, and try to change. Silly Christians…
Just found out that ‘Citizen Link’[of the video] is the rebranding of James Dobson’s ‘Focus On The Family’ magazine. A publication devoted to christian hate.
