The interviewer should have carried a clip of when Beck did say Obama was a racist, to show all those people who refused to believe that yes, he did in fact say that.
This just shows how ignorant people are… They just believe BS without research.
It’s sad to listen to these responses…
This guy is pretty good at dealing with these people and keeping cool.
God save the last bastion of hope! =P
This is what struck me as well. I’m not sure if I would have been able to calmly nod. I believe I would have begun laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. It’s hard for me to understand how people like this exist.
Country bumpkins, fundies, rednecks…….people who should have not left school after kindergarten. The president has done more to separate the blacks and the whites? Don’t they ever learn from history……oh, darn…I forgot, they don’t teach history in kindergarten.
All the comments about America being unique, the last bastion of hope, etc, makes me wonder how many of those people have actually travelled outside of it.
None. These are the same people that argue that socialized medicine can never work, and maintain this fiction by remaining absolutely ignorant of all the countries where it works just fine.
… and Steven Hamking would be dead by now!
“Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.” – John Stuart Mill
Most of these comments are knee-jerk assumptions. These people ride the waves of the first emotion that hits them when Fox news tells them “mexicans are invading amurrica!!” They don’t look into issues, they don’t research, they don’t think about the opposite side, people like Glenn Beck lure them in with false claims that invoke emotions like pride and anger. They don’t go beyond those emotions, and thats the biggest epidemic in America, on both sides of the fence.
And funny that most of them are huge in size in the vid.
“They don’t go beyond those emotions, and that’s the biggest epidemic in America, on both sides of the fence.”
Sorry, but this last sentence is vague to me. What sides of the fence?
Repubs and Dems. He’s saying they only take first impressions and roll with that, instead of, y’know, looking into those claims.
As an example, my father always harps on “anchor babies” illegal mexican immigrants have gain citizenship in the US to legally, but if he’d do some research into it, he’d find that “anchor babies” are anything but, simply because of the laws we have in place. But he doesn’t fact-check the issue. Yeah, it’s true some have babies over here and get to stay, but that process takes TWENTY ONE YEARS and if they had the baby over here while illegally here, they can’t ever be a US citizen, “anchor baby” or not.
Thank ya.
These idiots are wrong on so many different levels, its hard to even know where to begin. So I’ll only mention two moments that really stood out for me:
Somewhere in the middle– the jackass comparing what white US Americans are going through is like what happened the the US Indians? And he can claim this while reclining in his lawn chair, taking a road trip in his SUV from his nice suburban home. When “they” start slaughtering your family, literally destroying your home, sending troops to tell you “get out, move on,” then you can say you know how it feels.
And of course, closer to the beginning the hilarious narcissism– “AMERIKA IS THE LAST BASTION OF HOPE FOR TEH WORLD!!!1!!11!!!!!! Don’t get out much do you? (I wonder how many of these idiots even have passports)
All these idiots need to re-take their civics class, and not taught by a coach.
It’s funny how these people bellyache about deviating from the Constitution because the things they ask for would require revising the fundamentals of it: merging church and state, doing away with Jus Soli as determination of citizenship, making an official language. Those things aren’t in the Constitution … what gives?
Many people only believe that they believe in the Bible.
So it also is with the Constitution.
Here’s the deal: Tea Parties are for little girls and their imaginary friends…
Seriously, these people are just mindlessly repeating Beckerhead talking points. The tell is the blank stare and stammering when the interviewer asked them for specifics.
After watching the video I concluded:
- Most tea party kooks are overweight
- Most are white (I did saw no minorities in the entire video!)
- Most are older
- Most sound Southern.
I will also go out on a limb and say most are probably not college educated.
Side note: This one of the lead stories on the NHK news here that day and they interviewed a few people there and it really made the USA look like a nation of fools.
I think you’ve hit on something important with one of these points (I think they are all true, but one has an excellent implication): that they are all older.
There is a school of thought which says that people generally don’t change their ideas for progress to come, but they simply die off and the newer generation which has more progressive ideas takes charge.
When we combine their average age and weight, we shouldn’t have to wait too long.
Funny, Tee, many of the accents sound more midwestern (Ohioish) to me. I’m a Tennessean and I didn’t hear that many people that I would say came from my neck of the woods. On your other assumptions, though, I think you’re pretty safe.
I guess it depends your definition of “southern”. I’d make some Mason Dixon line joke but instead I will say I heard southern accents as I think midwest accents sound more “ah” and “ow”
Minnesotah and Wesconsen and Fahgo….
Then again I lived in the USA for about 3 years so what do I know?
Of course, what we see here is selected by the video makers, and there’s no requirement that it be truly representative.
I certainly agree that it’s rather possible that the selection they choose was someone edited to give the desired effect but also the way people express themselves struck me as incredibly similar to quiet a few people I’ve spoke to here in the UK – the I read it in the Daily Mail, so it must be true brigade. So we have vague assertions with no evidence to back them up, it’s just what’s happening; things that are totally untrue but sound good; when told what you believe is untrue then it doesn’t matter.
Let me just take the opportunity to give some appreciation to the moron wearing a “God” t-shirt, who said something along the lines of, “You know, these Muslims, their religion isn’t just a religion, it’s A LIFESTYLE.” He’s got balls of idiotic steel.
And yet, I hear many Christians say that “Christianity isn’t a religion, it’s a way of life”, as if there were a difference between the two…
I actually hear Muslims say that most.
Yeah, Muslims have that hammered into us. Islam is supposedly a complete guide on how to live your life.
And so is Christianity. So is any religion that is more than a handful of empty rituals.
They do have some point in that Islam, as well as Judaism, don’t have a render unto Caesar type of concept but rather contain a complete legal system that suppose to rule the secular as well as the religious affairs of the believers. This said, the majority of jews and muslims while they may give some lip service to the wisdom found in their respective codes don’t really want to live under them.
Yea, they are 2 sides of a coin so as to speak.
Obama’s a racist and doesn’t have pride in his country – yeah if the shoe fits – I’m a big, fat, white American sittin’ on my ass with my feet up and that’s my opinion (and that’s American pride for ya).
One films this sort of video to make a point, but did you have to lay it on with such a large trowel? Surely you could have leavened the choice of interviewees by including some relatively normal people.
Maybe there weren’t any normal people there. Perhaps the organisers were trying to create some sort of critical mass of stupid, concentrating it all together to create a reaction that would spread throughout the globe so Glenn Beck could take over the world.
I don’t hear the voices of the reasonable people who happen to agree with similar politics. You would think they dislike being portrayed as morons so much, they’d come out of the woodwork to restore the image and distance themselves from this group or try to expose these morons to some finesse or intelligence in which it is rooted, and have a leg to stand on. But where are they? If liberals aren’t filming them for mockery, they can film themselves. Maybe they weren’t at the rally because they know it’s going to be a big fest-o-morons. Anyway, if there’s anything intelligent coming out of this group, why have they failed to recognize what they’ve associated themselves with, and made a point to distinguish the ideas from the subset of morons and present them as rational?
Could have used a cut, from the lady saying “we’re not allowed to pray at the Lincoln Memorial”, to Glenn Beck praying, over a PA, at the Lincoln Memorial. Ow.
Playing “John Brown’s body..” (lyrics later changed for the Battle Hymn of the Republic) wonder how many people at the rally actually knew what Brown’s politics were.
Of course they don’t. That would require knowing history. And that would require reading something not “written” by Beck or Palin.
Had a friend who went to one these tea party gatherings to be with like minded people. this friend would constanly harp on how wrong this country in heading and how Obama is a socialist. And yet, he is on partial unemployement, the minute his unemployment check is late, he is calling the State to ask why.
He is a veteran and all his family’s medical care is through the VA. He deosn’t like the medical plan we have at work because he has to pay more….And yet, he is always against socialized medicine and how the government can’t run a half way decent hospital. I really didn’t have the heart to tell him that the VA is wholly tax payer funded and government run. What an idiot.
You should tell him. He needs to know the truthiness.
It’s time to Restore Truthiness to America!
A movement to ask Stephen Colbert to hold a ‘Restore Truthiness’ rally
I’m not especially surprised by all these statements we saw in the video.
The people who produce these statements – may it be the Birther movement, the Socialism or Nazi Statement and so on are not properly being challenged and put in their place.
The only serious challenges stem from Comedy Central, as sad as it is.
I would have loved to see Obama e.g. take Orly Taitz to court for deformation of character. Have the Governor of Hawaii as witness, have the birth certificate, that was shown in detail as evidence and have her publicly concede her non-sense, along with a stiff fine. Matter resolved.
But these characters are allowed to keep going, regardless how absurd their theories are, because apparently no one really “dares” to challenge them. Instead Fox is rewarded a first row seat in the White House briefing room.
So as long as these pseudo journalists go unchallenged, people like seen in the video will keep believing the BS they are being fed.
Klaus, America would also love to see Obama’s bitrth certificate. We know that
has not and will never happen. Only a copy of the short form has ever been shown.
Why has Obuma sent millions of dollars “hidding” the original “live Birth” certificate.
It has never been shown, just show it and let all eat crow…they wont. So sit back
collect your Obuma check and wait until Nov. 2 Just because you and your friends
hate America and believe in Al-Qaida makes you any better.
Thanks v400ett. You’re making my point for me.
“My sister has seen pregnant women in parking lots! Therefore, we must stop immigration!”
Wow. Just wow. Everyone one of them stammered when asked for specific reasons for their “belief”. I especially loved the comment “I learned everything I need to know about Islam on 9/11″. I guess I missed the test that day.
most of them look like they could use another hot dog
If these are the non-crackpots I’m glad he didn’t show us the true ones.
