Seven states in America just had a series of primary elections. Over in Delaware, anti-masturbation candidate Christine O’Donnell just took the Republican nomination for Senate. She’s generally viewed as Palin without the charm.
Here in New York, the Republican gubernatorial nomination went to Carl Paladino, a Buffalo-area businessman, politician and trans-dimensional lizard creature. Carl is most famous for the wacky racist, pornographic e-mails he used to send out on a regular basis (nsfw, and kinda offensive).
I knew I should have taken some advice from Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal…
… but I couldn’t find a wood-burning kit small enough.

Got wood.
Wait–how can you be less charming than Sarah Palin?
I think that’s the point.
Maybe the Carl appealed to 4chan. Maybe it was really good porn.
The stupid is strong in the Republican party…. On the other hand, the more obvious arseholes win the Republican primaries, the less likely they are to beat the Dems in the mid-terms – Happy days!
Oh that this were true.
Hopefully as the republicans are being taken over by absolute lunatics (tea-party) the general electorate will vote against them because they are so crazy. It is quite possible (though not certain) that all of these tea-party candidates are going to drive the republicans even further out of power. One can only hope.
Those were my thoughts leading up to the some of the primaries. Here in New York State yesterday, the tea-party candidate, Paladino won in a landslide over a moderate republican. My concern now is that these wacko candidates are going to bring out all the wackos that never vote. Especially in New York since the state is really really in a financial mess.
As the spineless Dems keep pushing the independents and the country further to the right, the rightwing ( not to be confused with the rightwing xtian wackos who are only being used as tools to achieve the corporatists’ hidden agendas) have really used this to their fullest advantage – deregulation, tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest sliver of the society.
As a whole, the left just don’t have the organization, zeal, funding and focus of the right to fund “think tanks” to sway public opinion, to lobby on behalf of their paymasters. On the right, we have multinationals, media empires, faith industry heavies and wealthy clans, on the left, we have unions and the general public. Unions’ influence have been steadily eroded by the decades worth of globalization, union busting and deregulation. The general public is so large and so fractious and so easily distracted by “cultural” issues like abortion, gun control and gay marriage, large segments of it often vote against our very own interests – The roofer making $50k a year will go to a minutemen border rally to protest again illegals who make $20k a year doing shit even he doesn’t want to do and yet won’t make a peep about his evaporating 401k because some asshole in NYC made the wrong bet on a stock in his Bentley after a coke fueled night with a couple $3000/hr Russian hookers.
I know people who are collecting umemployment but will go to tea party events to protest against “big government”. I know people who would drone on and on about how our nanny state is sacking our competitive spirit but is counting on soicial security to pay for his $200 a pop heart medicine from the big drug comglomerates.
Take a look around, this is just a snap shot of where we are headed. As more and more wealth is being sucked up be the top 1%, they will use their well paid talking heads to feed us with “social issues” so that we at the bottom will continue to be fight each other for what little crum happens to fall off the corner of their mouths. This is the classic divide and conquer tactic. Pretty soon we will be living in a real third world country where the government is but a tool of the wealthy to keep the population at bay while the elites keep getting richer and more insolated from the rest of us.
Buy gold my friends, the end of days is coming.
So as always we have the choice between overly religious republicans and idiot democrats who couldn’t balance a check book. When will intelligent, financially responsible atheists have a candidate they can get behind?!?!
