Reader Kodie has linked to these videos in a couple of different comments. They were created by the group Amplify Your Voice, and are actual selections from abstinence-only education programs:

I appreciate the public service message of these videos, but the cute, it burns!

  2. LRA says:

Those schools should be damn glad I don’t have a daughter in that program. I would be up at that school tearing the staff a new one so fast that their heads would spin.

    >:(

    • UrsaMinor says:

If I had a son, I wouldn’t be too keen on having him exposed to this toxic nonsense either.

      • LRA says:

        Seriously!

I think I was reacting to the “spitting in the cup”. Clearly, the “cup” is a girl’s vagina and the “spit” is sperm.

But does a guy really want to drink a cup of his own spit? (wouldn’t that be married sex?) That’s pretty disgusting, too.

But, yes, boys to hear this message and make the problem worse for girls. See, it’s not so bad to spit in a cup. But it’s really bad to be the cup that got spit in.

Of, course, the message goes for homosexual sex as well. It REALLY makes me angry when fundies go off on how “gross” homosexual sex is. Well, it’s no more gross than regular sex. But whatever. It’s just more dumbf*ckery from dumbf*cks. What should we expect?

This whole topic makes me mad. Abstinece-only (misogynist, homophobic) education sucks.

        >:(

        • UrsaMinor says:

It not only sucks for various ethical reasons, but it totally flunks the effectiveness test. If actually reducing rates of teenage pregnancy and STDs are your goals, it’s at the bottom of the list.

Which is why I suspect that the abstinence-only movement’s goal is not to reduce rates of teenage pregnancy and STDs. The goal is Christian indoctrination.

“No more gross than regular sex”? LOL, what a ringing endorsement!

And just for the record, homosexual sex IS regular sex. If you’re homosexual. :)

          • LRA says:

Ah! MY BAD! I try to be careful with my speech to be respectful to gay people who I feel are especially targets of the hate filled bigots that fundie are. Sorry about that! You are absolutely right! Homosexual sex IS regular sex.

Also, the “no more gross” was meant a bit tongue-in-cheek (which now sounds like an innuendo since were on the subject of sex. LOL!!!!)

            • UrsaMinor says:

Just yanking your chain. But I am amused at the way your (very much appreciated) attempt to be respectful came out. :)

Would you believe, there are lots of gay people who find the idea of heterosexual sex gross?

I don’t really have a horse in this race. Heterosexual sex is fine and I’ve had plenty of it, and I can safely say that it doesn’t gross me out in the least. Homosexual sex suits my tastes better. Most people that I know, of either canonical sexual orientation, don’t seem to be that flexible (And are there really only two boxes you can check? I mean, really?). When the holy wars break out over the subject, I keep my head down.

            • LRA says:

LOL! Yes, I believe it… people are funny creatures.

Well, I think you were right to point out my careless use of language. I try to be inclusive in my speech (ie, using people-first language, not creating divisions where there need not be any). Of course, I’ll go after people I think are harmful and hateful and I won’t be so careful with them.

              Grrrr!!!!!!

          • Michael says:

In my opinion, homosexual sex is more normal than heterosexual sex because the participants are more often perpendicular.

        • Custador says:

Ye Gods, can anybody who has a healthy and mutually satsifying love life honestly say that they were just born good at sex?! Seriously, any Prince who isn’t a total moron shold be taking the Princess’s suggestions and damned well memorising them for future use. Is it only Christian men who are this threatened by empowered women? Is it only Christian women who regard sex as a chore they must perform for the man’s enjoyment? How tragic! And what bastards if they even can enjoy sex with a partner who isn’t into it!

  3. Friedrich says:

I’ll go as easy as I can on this one………………. what a bunch of “sick” mother-forkers these people are!!!!!!!!!!! It would be just punishment….. if they all died of AIDS. And their mothers too!!!! ;-)

  4. CriticalEyes says:

And these are the same people who, because they refuse to use birth-control… or allow Abortion, have the vast amount of un-wed pregnacies. to underage young women. All public funding should be denied to these people!

    • sophi says:

all tax payer funding of these programs should be moved into an abortion fund to pay for the abortions that these young women may need after we failed to provide them with any means of avoiding unwanted pregnancies.

which would probably have the effect of denying them all public funding. i mean, we should fund the abuse, but i’m happy to fund the cleanup. especially if we can fund secular organizations to handle it.

  5. Custador says:

Also, isn’t it revealing (and revolting) that programs designed to control women phrase their messages in terms of “do this because it’s what a man will want.

  6. WarbVIII says:

    Just wow….

  7. Unladenswallow says:

I just checked the “Choosing the Best” website the people who produce this crock of shit and ran across this in a section they called “Setting the record straight”:

    10. Aren’t abstinence-centered education programs and Choosing the Best fundamentally about religious conviction?

No, Choosing the Best programs do not include any references to religion. Abstinence-centered education and Choosing the Best are about promoting health for our teens. Although some teens that choose abstinence may also be influenced by their personal religious convictions, abstinence-centered education is about making healthy choices to be free from the risks of STDs, unplanned pregnancy and negative emotional consequences. It is about freedom to pursue future dreams and goals, regardless of religious preference or conviction.

They seemed to have taken a page from the people promoting Intelligent Design and attempted to hide their real motivations for this program.

    • Custador says:

If any of their stated aims were honest, they would stop promoting abstinence only “education”.

Actually, can we please stop calling it “education”? Education is the imparting of knowledge and learning to empower an individual to make correctly informed choices – what they do is indoctrinate people in an attempt to make those people make choices which are objectively and demonstrably bad choices.

    • Francesc says:

“to be free from [...] negative emotional consequences.”
Am I the only one who thinks this sentence is disturbing at some level?
There are normal “negative emotional consecuences” when you are a teenager in love wich are just part of the process of growing up in society. They are a relevant part of discovering that other people have feelings and those are independent from your desires.
Then there are “negative emotional consecuences” from raping or abusing other people, wich probably would be avoided by a healthy sex education.

Are they trying to avoid that their son/daughter may have his/her heart broken by not letting them out of the tower? Or do they think that male teenagers naturally tend to rape?

      • UrsaMinor says:

Well, there is this whole cultural myth about men being at the mercy of their sexual urges. And Western culture is not the only one with that myth. It gets really ugly when you tie it to the idea that women aren’t full citizens, can’t think for themselves, and must therefore always be under the care of a man and submit to his wishes as owned property. If men are assumed to always want to rape an attractive woman, the solution to this is to make sure that all sex happens within the bounds of marriage, where it is not considered rape even if the woman is unwilling.

        • Francesc says:

Well, legally it is still rape although it happens in a married couple. Maybe fundie’s morals where left behind some centuries ago. And that’s why I’m ennoyed when some archbishop says that their pederasts are a consecuence of an inmoral society. I found my morals a lot more sane than theirs.

          • UrsaMinor says:

Legally it is rape in the U.S. if the wife does not consent (and that was a long time coming), but there are still places in the world where it is not legally possible for a woman to bring charges of rape against her husband.

The dragon is my penis, right!!!!!

  9. ApotheosisOfMan says:

“One of the most promising grants is the recently reinstated Title V. Now federal law as part of the recent health care legislation , Title V provides block grants to states specifically for abstinence education under A-H criteria identical to that previously required in section 510 of the Welfare Reform Act. Choosing the Best meets these A-H criteria, and has a documented history of success implementing Title V grants.”

Well, no one said the new legislation was perfect…

  10. Lucy says:

I amuses me how crappy the anymation is, and the robot like voices, so appealing

    • JK says:

The makers of those two movies are AGAINST what was ‘teached’ in class. They just use the animation as an anonymous vehicle to communicate those silly ‘teachings’ to a broader audience.

  11. talynknight says:

Ah, one can never have to many euphemisms.

“Hey honey, want to ‘slay the dragon’ tonight? We can even use the ‘rope’ this time.”

Then again maybe the second part isn’t a euphemism at all.

  12. Tina says:

My 15 year old thought these were stupid. At least I got to explain to him why I was aksing what type of sex education he was getting in school. I also got to learn from the taller than me fella who doesn’t share that he has decided to abstain from sex until marriage or until he is in a serious relationship. I love my kid.

  13. Baconsbud says:

I’m not sure if anyone has said anything about this but just saw a car insurance commercial with these bears in it. I think it was a Gieco one but didn’t see it on youtube so not completely sure.

  14. Green Eggs and Ham says:

This is child abuse. Dumping this kind of toxic shame into teenagers leads to nothing good.
