Rabbi Dov Lior, a senior authority on Jewish law in the Religious Zionism movement, asserted recently that a Jewish woman should never get pregnant using sperm donated by a non-Jewish man – even if it is the last option available.
According to Lior, a baby born through such an insemination will have the “negative genetic traits that characterize non-Jews.” Instead, he advised sterile couples to adopt.
Sefer HaChinuch (a book of Jewish law) states that the character traits of the father pass on to the son,” he said in the lecture. “If the father in not Jewish, what character traits could he have? Traits of cruelty, of barbarism! These are not traits that characterize the people of Israel.”
I guess this racist Rabbi skipped parts in the Torah where the Jews go and barbarically wipe out other cultures because someone said a God commanded it.
Lior added identified Jews as merciful, shy and charitable – qualities that he claimed could be inherited. “A person born to Jewish parents, even if they weren’t raised on the Torah – there are things that are passed on (to him) in the blood, it’s genetic,” he explained. “If the father is a gentile, then the child is deprived of these things.
“I even read in books that sometimes the crime, the difficult traits, the bitterness – a child that comes from these traits, it’s no surprise that he won’t have the qualities that characterize the people of Israel,” he added.
Because True Jews never do anything criminal, of course. Those are False Jews. You know, just like True Christians never do anything criminal either.
“If a child is born without a father, he cannot be 100% normal.” He stated that rabbinical literature defines these kids as “criminals and subjects of other negative phenomena.”.
That’s right, just look at Adam (their first man) who was a bloody criminal, Moses (who was also a bloody criminal), and Jesus (who was killed for being a bloody criminal).

I meant the actual ethnic group, the Barbarians (who were pillaging Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire along with the Vandals and the Goths).
LRA, the term “barbarian,” unlike “Vandal” and “Goth,” is not and never has been the name of an ethnic group. It was a term used by Greeks for all non-Greeks (whose speech they represented as “Bar, bar, bar”; so it is as if we were to call non-English speakers “blahblahians”), and then by Romans for all who were neither Roman nor Greek.
I thought “barbarian” was a Roman term used specifically for the English (for the reasons you described)? Can’t remember where I heard that though.
Nah, MKR is correct. They disliked the people of the British Isles for *other* reasons (druidism was one of the two major outlawed religions in the Empire, due perhaps to their penchant for sacrificing captured Roman legionaries).
“Barbarian” is of Greek origin. The root “barbar” is a reduplicative onomatopoeic word used to describe the unintelligible mutterings any non-Greek speaker.

I think breaking Godwin’s Law is necessary in some situations. The Israeli administration does resemble the German government in the 1930s-1945. It’s undeniable. I hate the fact that the press can’t point this out without being accused of being anti-Semitic.
Honestly, this guy doesn’t come even halfway up the extremist scale for nutcase Rabbis who hold power in Israel. There’s one who’s got a (best-selling) book out explaining why it’s imperative to kill all Palestinian children as soon as possible just in case they might one day grow up to say bad things about Jews. Because, clearly, the whole Jewish race is beyond reproach when some of them think that way…

Still, to be able to push the limits of human decency so far, it means he’s in an environment that allows it, and this is worrisome.
He’s closely aligned with Israel’s president, who refused to condemn the book. That says a lot to me.
Even the sources you quote point out that the lack of response from the government is due to political cowardice. While these nutcases don’t represent a significant part of the Israeli population they hold an unproportional power due to their position as the balance of a coalition which result from a rather fu*ked political system that make it almost certain that a prime minister will be a constant hostage for every tiny faction of his coalition who can bring the government down at will. I’m not aware of any close connections between him and the president (a useless figurehead) but knowing the man holding the position (Shimon Peres) I’m not surprised he will keep quite, the man spent decades being hated and vilified by the religious right and yet keep kissing up to them in some sick hope that one day they will love him. While I don’t claim that israeli politics is free from racism and stupidity this guy is just a Sarah Palin in a beard and stupid black hat, a lot of noise but not really that important.

I’m not sure that him promoting abortion is a good thing. Any parents convinced by his arguments aren’t probably the best adoptive parents you can think of.
