Here’s another video of Christians harassing a Muslim. This one is painful, but there’s a funny side to it. First the video, then the story behind it:
The story begins with a rally planned by Anjem Choudar to be called “Sharia4America”. There’s no question that Choudar is a radical Muslim – or rather, there’s no question that he wants to be seen as a radical Muslim. He runs around promoting “Islamic ideology,” but he has no real following. I suspect most American Muslims look at him the way moderate Christians look at Fred Phelps.
Naturally, a counter protest was planned. But for some reason, Choudar cancelled the rally just before it was scheduled to begin, leaving the counter protesters at a loss.
The first comedic thing that happened was the friction between different groups of protesters. All the big names were there, including Rev. Terry Jones (of “Burn the Koran” fame), and they didn’t get along. From TPM
His black sunglasses resting a few inches above his signature handlebar mustache, Jones hopped up on a bench in Lafayette Park and announced that his organization Stand Up America was holding a rally.
An aide to Frank Gaffney, the founder and president of the American Center for Security Policy, didn’t take kindly to that and quickly told the National Park Service that Jones wasn’t a part of their group and didn’t have a permit for his rally. So Jones and his crowd, many of them decked out in biker gang gear, set up shop in the midst of Pennsylvania Avenue.
[...]
… Jones ran into Randall Terry, the militant anti-abortion activist who has been churning out the type of media coverage Jones’ Koran burning stunt got for years.
“You should’a burned the Korans by the way, you blinked. You should’a burned them,” Terry said.
And then we have the above video:
The formal events had both ended but attendees were still hanging around by the time a Muslim man holding a Starbucks cup and wearing a bluish winter coat with writing on the back began chanting Arabic prayers in front of the White House. That’s when attendees of both rallies merged around the man soon breaking into chants of “U.S.A.” and “Jesus” and renditions of “Amazing Grace.” Those throwing tiny crosses at the man’s feet appeared to be from the Jones camp.
“Is he yelling U.S.A.?” asks one man in the crowd. “It doesn’t matter — he’s anti-women, he’s anti-freedom,” one woman said. “Take it back to your own country!” said another man. “No Sharia law!” shouted another.

I do wonder whether American muslims have even heard of Anjem Choudary. Is he a rent-a-quote in the US too? As for why he cancelled his rally, one of the groups he founded with Omar Bakri had links to actual terrorists. And by links I mean “Raised money to support the blowing up of people and shit”. That group got banned, Bakri ran away to Lebanon (currently wanted by the authorities there as well, not sure why, but I think it safe to assume blowing shit up is involved) and Choudary has been going out of his way since to try and prove to everyone that he is still scary. In other words, there’s no way in hell he’d have got a visa to travel to the US. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if his passport has been revoked, meaning he’s stuck here.
Well, on the bright side, this could be very educational for the Christians. Now they know exactly how nonreligious people feel about the threat of theocratic Christian rule.
Oh, wait, that would require introspection and empathy. Never mind…
You nailed it.
Imagine it was a Christian praying like this beeing pestered is by Muslims in the same way. Those Muslims would get lynched bye the (Christian) mob.
Strange those same Christians think they were persecuted…
These idiots raise being infantile to an art-form. What did that guy do? He prayed in a public place. Is that to be banned, now? Or if we do that to Christians, does that violate their right to free expression? Does “free expression” actually mean “Christians should say what they want and everybody else should STFU”?
Yes, pretty much.
@SarahPalinUSA: Common sense & decency absent as wacko “church” allowed hate msgs spewed@ soldiers’ funerals but we can’t invoke God’s name in public square
“What kind of god would have you kill others because you won’t submit to their religion?” (paraphrase)
Really? I’m speechless
I thought the same exact thing. Hypocrisy?
That’s irony, right there! Beautiful, blissful irony.
I don’t often feel for those that pray ,but I felt really bad for this guy and disgusted yet again by my fellow citizens.
I feel bad for him too and embarrassed that this negative stereotype of religious Christians is justified by this foolish behavior these people exhibit, but why is this Muslim man praying so openly near a group of fanatical Christians? That is just asking for it. They are both attention whores.
Much as I despise Anjem Choudhary, it is his right to pray there. If it were a liberal muslim doing the same we would be applauding his bravery in making a point.
If a christian was faced by an angry mob and just prayed he would be lauded for his bravery by his peers. If one of us stood in front of a mob of pro-lifers shouting abuse to show our support for women then we would be regarded as badass heroes.
It’s the same thing Miami. It maybe stupid but it’s that kind of stupid that wins people over. Anjem Choudhary is a raging dick. Muslims hate him, as do the rest of british people not because he is a muslim but because he is a douche. Many muslims in the UK fled the religious nonsense of Pakistan’s purges of Bangladesh. Their kids are quite fundie because they lack identity. They are told by their parents that they aren’t proper muslims. And men such as Anjem Choudhary and Abu Hamza latch on this and tell them that the only way to be a proper muslim is to be like Saudi Arabia or the Taliban.
These men are their rock stars because they let them reach their perceived potential. Muslim asians in the UK are the poorest demographic and the least educated. Their stats are distorted by hindu asians who are the richest and highest educated demography. Since both are effectively the same ethnicity they are lumped together. The muslim asians were originally refugees and lived in ghettoes and still do. Rusholme, Leeds/Bradford, Birmingham have high numbers of asians muslims due to that principle.
A good example of Christian bullies following the biblical directive “Do to others all that you would have them do to you”.
FTFY.
not to be trite, but I think I need this quote on a shirt
Good one. lol.
To the original quote.
Just a quick note, his name is, in fact, Anjem Choudary, with a ‘y’ at the end. Not sure why it was spelled as ‘Choudar’ for the entire article.
