The presenters were brilliant. They were very clear and concise when explaining their points and did very well to let Ray say everything he wanted to. I find Ray both more infuriating and more tolerable than other evangelists. He is very wrong and making a lot of money from spreading ignorance, but he seems more genuine than a lot of others; which is both sad and stupid.
However reasonable Ray seems to be, lets not forget he exploits vulnerable People desperate for some kind of attention, sells them a falsehood and reinforces their low self esteem, I find nothing genuine in his arguments.
eeehhhhhhhhhhhh the atheist experience guys are smart, i wish they would debate someone more intelligent than ray comfort. i can’t listen through all of this, its driving me crazy.
You sound like a xtian right there. Well I don’t like what you say so I’m gonna bury my head in the sand. Sure Ray said ridiculous things but watching how Matt and Russell handled him was pretty amazing.
The wife and I rushed back home from a shopping trip to be able to watch this live last Sunday. I love Matt but I really wish that Russell would have been able to get some more of his arguments in. There were some really good arguments by them though. And they managed to do the whole interview without asking about bananas.
The truly sad part is how confused Ray is about what faith is, that atheists don’t claim to have absolute knowledge, and the fact he doesn’t know what a species is. I mean every time Matt or Russell would say anything. No matter how much authoritative research was done on it he would just say I don’t have the faith to believe you. Ray is they kind of man that will walk away from a conversation like this. Completely beat and hold his head up and say man I really showed them atheists. Sad sad man.

You Fvcking Goober.
You think I sound like a christian and natter on about me sticking my head in the sand when you admit we didn’t see anything new from Ray? As if I haven’t wasted my time hearing him lie and misrepresent science with the weapons grade stupid that comes from his pie hole.
I thought the exact same. Matt was trying to pin Ray to just a couple of points which is of course an excellent strategy, but I recall thinking “no Matt, you’re just letting him troll!” at some points. Russell did a great job in his few comments really making Ray sound completely outlandish. It almost seemed like Ray was beginning to think that too, but he might have just been stunned at how on-point they were.
Ray: The theory of evolution doesn’t give me any of that information. You don’t know where we came from. I’ve never heard any evolutionist explain to me why male and female are in everything.
Russel: You have. I’ve got records of where they explained it.
Wow, I made it through the whole thing! [Pats self on back]. Never heard or seen of this show before, but it’s great.
Now, I know that most (all?) of us atheists will agree that Ray’s reasoning is like that of a child playing in a sandbox, compared to the two moderators. They seemed to know their science, and the limitations of science, whereas Ray Comfort’s straw man science was laughable.
But what I want to know is what intelligent, thinking Christians (no, stop laughing, that’s not necessarily an oxymoron!) thought about this dialogue? Would any thinking person, no matter what your preconceptions, think that Comfort came out on top? It seems inconceivable to me that anyone would, but maybe my preconceptions from being objective??
The only reason people would believe a nincompoop like Ray came out on top is if he said the things they wanted to hear and they were interested in only protecting their world view. It doesn’t matter how smart they are, if they are threatened with having doubt cast in the belief system they’ve constructed they will do contortions to keep it.
The guys from Atheist Experience clearly came out on top…. Clearly, that is, to people who can reason clearly. I’m afraid that Ray’s authoritarian debating style insures that neither he nor other religious believers will ever be convinced that he came out on the losing side, however. The crux of the matter is that Ray does not have Faith in Reason, and will therefore never concede in a reasonable debate. Which is maddening, because he’s out there trying to convince other people who don’t have reason at their disposal that he has a reasonable case for God. Completely illogical, yet when you point this out he cites a lack of faith in the evidence. Faith is all-important to him, and he distrusts Reason yet still tries to convince us that he’s using reason.
There just is no rational basis for faith, is all I’m saying. Which of course, is the definition of faith. I have no faith in faith, and I don’t understand why those with faith attempt to engage in rational debate. If they just stopped pretending to have a rational faith, we could go back to leaving each other alone, and do away with Intelligent design.
I have 2 cousins, YEC both, that work in the medical field. I have asked them before why they use the tools provided by science to heal people yet will not admit that science is a valid method for aquiring knowledge. I get a response along the lines of ‘it’s just now worth my time to debate with you’. The hypocrisy is mind numbing, as it was with Ray’s answers to the same question about vaccines and such. And my cousins want religion in our science classes as well…and all their children spout the same tripe. Child abuse pure and simple. Grrrrrrrrr……..
“Yeah well listen, um, just be tolerant of other peoples’ beliefs. I mean, we live in America, and this is a “freedom of religion” nation, we’re not like some of these, uh, Middle East countries, so don’t let it upset you, and let people read what they want and believe what they want.” (45:05)
Wow, what a ringing endorsement of Christianity. “Sure, it sucks, but don’t let it upset you.”
I liked the part where he admitted that the bible was full of unbelievable stuff, and that he didn’t believe a lot of it. Another ringing endorsement of christianity.
No, Ray said that there are many horrible things in the Bible, not that he didn’t believe them.
To which the hosts remarked that many of those horrible things were commanded directly by God. Ray never answered how this can be (except for a lame attempt to justify slavery).
Why does this man keep insisting that he “do[es]n’t like having to use blind faith” when that is what religion is founded on? “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. I’m confused. Also, the following linked article might help him with the apparent enigma that species and speciation presents him, I find that visual aides greatly increase comprehension and clarity when presenting new material to someone without a background structure against which to assimilate new information. Evolution in Action: Lizard Moving From Eggs to Live Birth
In agreement with Mr.Cheese prior comment. I did not understand why they told this guy not to go by experience then they said something about going by their own experience. Also I do not know whether to trust them. They said they read the Bible. I was hoping to listen to someone strong in disbelief of God. At the same time I think they did well. Just wonder if I could really trust them.

I withstood 10 minutes.
Being Rick-Rolled is easier to listen to than Ray Comfort. WTF would I want to expose myself to over 50 minutes of him.

Can somebody please put a “like” button on here?

So you did WATCH it, right? Because there is a banana right there on the table. Thus, they had brought it up since frame 1 of the show.
Is there any way I could get an mp3 of that? I live in China and can’t get youtube. And I love the Atheist Experience! – thanks.
And a subtitled version! For those -like me- who understand much better written than spoken english.
They turn the audiofeed into a podcast. Here’s the RSS feed and the archive, and you can download it from either.
They also have a radio show – The Non Prophets that you can also get as a podcast.
I love how Ray Comfort hit every single logical fallacy in the book. Win!
At around 24:30 he actually uses argumentum ad crocoduck.
31:36ish

Beautiful.
Illustrates Ray Comfort perfectly. He’s not being disingenuous, he’s just stupid. Really. He’s very, very stupid.
” … he’s just stupid.”
I don’t think he is as he knows exactly what he’s doing, which is very much preaching to the converted.

I also LOVE the way that Matt seems to know the Bible better than Ray Comfort. So Ray gets pinned to the floor on both Bible knowledge AND science!

Available on iTunes as mp3
I just want to strangle the man. His “age of the airplane” metaphor doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
