Here’s another one that’s gone viral. A mash-up of a Pentecostal pastor “slaying in the spirit” and some classic ’90s video game sounds.

It was cute, but Benny Hin doing ‘bodies hit the floor’ is still the best.
Leg. End. Ary.
Agreed
1) Congregation is almost all women and children. Maybe the men are too tough to “fall” for his play-acting.
2) Women are all wearing pants (oops, sorry UK folks, trousers), so why cover their legs with blankets when they hit the floor? Are the vague shape of female legs more lust-provoking horizontal than vertical?
The blankets prevent any ankle promiscuity.
When I went to church, they used to put those blankets on everyone even the men. It was just something they did because thats what had always been done. It was part of the ritual. It didn’t have anything to do with promiscuity, it was something done without thinking about it.
Not so much the Last Dragon as the Last Pastor (if only).
Oh man, I actually recognize a whole lot of those sound clips. I am such a nerd…and I like it :p
What tickled me the most was the “Ensastu Kokuryuha” part (at 1:33), simply because I know where it came from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YPPHLQcVF4 (at 2:24). Ah those were the days…
Yu Yu Hakusho! I LOVE YU YU HAKUSHO!
“Get over here” did it for me; I laughed like a motherfucker
darn… so, anyone’s got a link that explains this behavior?
I mean, what actually happens?
In this particular case it looks like he’s just bigger than they are and is pushing them over. FWIW even if I’m wrong about that, suggestion can be very powerful, and various cultures have similar rituals. Dim Mak’s “no touch knockout” comes to mind…
It’s called being “slain in the spirit,” “doing carpet time” or a couple of other terms. It’s fairly common in the charismatic sects.
GBM is right; it’s basically just the power of suggestion. Notice how frantic everyone is. Some people are already gyrating and emotionally keyed up. Everyone of them has probably already seen this type of performance before and, subconsciously, they know what to expect. When the preacher gestures or pushes them over, their bodies know to collapse. Some even faint completely.
Of course, if you’re a non-charismatic fundamentalist christian, it’s proof demon possession or something like that,
Darren Brown did a quick experiment with it, but I doubt his suggestions would work for someone who hasn’t experienced the culture and been whipped into a frenzy.
Actually, now that I think of it, Brown’s Instant conversion videos are a little better, but there’s always the question with Brown as to how much is staged.
I gave it some thought on the “fainting based on suggestion”… I guess is no different from having a wet dream? In terms of the mind, I mean…
Auto-fainting is out of my league… the other, well…
I had an experience with this “slain in the spirit” at my parents in law’s house… they invited this guy over for dinner, and he claimed to have the gift of prophecy… After dinner and a tip, i mean, an offering; there was some praying and slight pushing on people…
My parents in law fell on the couch, and so did my sisters in law… Neither me nor my wife did… we all go to a no-charismatic, no-screaming, no-drums church, so it really puzzled my mind.
I have given the situation a lot of thought and my conclusion is that even though they have a lot of faith and a huge love for God, somehow they wanted to feel something, to make it more tangible, if you may…
Picking on little girls! Where I come from he could expect a visit from men with baseball bats.
Why does nobody hit back? Might do that fraud some good ^^.
What must this be doing to the minds of those poor kids?
!!!!IMMORAL COMBAT!!!!
ROFL Win!
The girl in the pink shirt appears to be new to this. You can tell by the way that she doesn’t collapse at the first suggestion (and when she does fall, it’s much more controlled).
