Niko Alm is an atheist, and the co-founder of the Austrian group “Volksbegehrens gegen Kirchen-Privilegien” (The Referendum against Church Privileges). In his most recent driver’s license picture, he had himself photographed wearing a colander on his head. (Apparently it’s a standard IKEA colander. What would we do without wikipedia.)
According to Viennese regulations, these photographs are supposed to be taken without headgear, and the only exception is religious headdress. Niko Alm has listed his religion as Pastafarian and claimed that the colander is the orthodox headdress of the religion.
I’m stunned that he got away with it. I have to think that the Viennese DVN has more of a sense of humor than the American DMV.
He looks a little strained to me. (sorry, sorry)
Niko Alm has his story at his blog, which is (naturally) in German. I’m getting the story via Dangerous Minds and the BBC. From the BBC, “The idea came into Mr Alm’s noodle three years ago …” Apparently this is a license to pun.
I, for one, wonder what else he’s got up his sieve.
Is this what he does to let the time pasta away.
You have to take your hat off to the man.
“He looks a little strained to me”
Brilliant. xD
Crap memory, though. Mind like a sieve.
Looks can be desieving.
You have to learn to look pasta them.
I’ll bet this guy still uses the Julian colander.
Strainger things have happened.
Excellent colander jokes! +1 internet points!
And, BTW, it has the same benefit as a tin foil hat, too!
This guy is my new hero.
Oh, crap, this comes out after I already spent $$ on a genuine 18th century repro hat with musket ball hole.
It is a religious headdress.
I defy you to find any holes in that statement.
I really, really needed to laugh out loud today (a long and difficult day), and pastafarian did it for me. God bless him. Or, something like that.
pennes from heaven
+1
If he eats wheat pasta, he belongs to a cult. I follow only gluten-free
The strained look is actually the one you’re told to go for in these photographs. Smiles are officially verboten.
I look forward to the day when members of other religions who want to wear funny hats on their driver’s license photos first have to provide a certificate of mental evaluation.
It’s Austria, of course he got away with it! They’re like the most non-religious religious people out there.
Even in Austria religious stupidity supersieves logic.
Niko has great taste in his faith.
