Satan is Occupying Wall Street

Cindy Jacobs is always ready to give us the lunatic’s view of current events.

Meanwhile Jay Smooth has a slightly more stable view of the protests and the media response:

Let me just throw in a comment about the latest extension of the Occupy Wallstreet movement: Occupy Museums:

The game is up: we see through the pyramid schemes of the temples of cultural elitism controlled by the 1%. No longer will we, the artists of the 99%, allow ourselves to be tricked into accepting a corrupt hierarchical system based on false scarcity and propaganda concerning absurd elevation of one individual genius over another human being for the monetary gain of the elitest of elite. For the past decade and more, artists and art lovers have been the victims of the intense commercialization and co-optation or art.

Speaking as a museum worker: we know what the problems are. We deal with them everyday. But figuring out how to balance our mission to educate and display a wide variety of ideas with the need to pay for it all is getting increasingly difficult. Things have been getting worse for most of us since 9/11, and quite a few museums are now basically being run by the fundraising departments. Frequently this leads to museums being run by and for the folks with money, but we can’t think of a solution.

(I could throw in that this isn’t much of a shift for many art museums, but it should be understood that there’s some bitterness here. History museums don’t have the kind of prestige that art museums have, so we don’t see the kind of wealthy backers that art musuems sometimes get.)

I appreciate people getting involved and speaking up, and I hope the teach-in went well, but aren’t you getting just a little bit off topic here?

Does Cindy Jacobs remind anyone else of the boring prophet in Life of Brian?

  2. Yeah, that Occupy Museums thing is a bit ridiculous. I mean, yes, there are certainly art museums and galleries that appear to exist primarily for the purpose of “monetary gain of the [...] elite.” But for the most part, public art museums and other public cultural institutions like them (history and science museums or libraries, for example) are operated completely differently from the businesses being targeted by Occupy Wall Street and the people who run them are not generally part of the 1% (hooray for public service salaries). I just don’t agree with this offshoot’s topic/target.

So the Lord wanted Gaddafhi and Mubarek to stay in power in the interest of civil calm? This woman is so out of her depth. With her understanding of foreign policy, she could be a Republican presidential canadidiate.

Hmmm. She seems to be confusing democracy with anarchy. But let’s take her at face value. Social unrest and revolution = anarchy = bad. Ergo, she must agree that the United States splitting off from Great Britain was a big mistake, not part of the Lord’s plan, and a clearly an event that advanced the agenda of Satan.

I eagerly await her next video, where she makes a plea for the U.S. to surrender itself to its proper British sovereign, and cleanse our nation of all religion but the official Church of England.

The problem with how art museums are managed goes back to their founding: Robber barons made their collections public to impress other rich people and pretend they weren’t tasteless nouveau riche. I’d be interested in studying this topic a lot more, but this doesn’t seem like the best forum for that.

This woman is delusional and ought to be hospitalized. Just because she mumbles superstitious nonsense about god and some spirit or another doesn’t make her any less crazy than your run of the mill unmedicated schizophrenic. There is no reason not to lock people up who do this. Religion is the bane of the human race.

There’s no way that is a woman.
