It’s a Girl!

I guess it would be a little weird for “God’s son” to be a girl. ;)

Manger scence, wise men panicing saying 'it's a girl!'

Of course that’s proposterous. How could a female possibly be fit for that? (im being sarcastic of course)

  2. L.Long says:

Well we all know that girls are weak emotional things that would get angry over the least little thing… ;-}.
Like cursing a fig tree for not having fruit out of season……Oh Wait!!!
Maybe the cartoonist really does know something we don’t????

    • So funny:)
This reminds me of the Tori Amos song Mohammed My Friend in which she says Jesus was female.
At any rate, I don’t get why girls are so devalued all over the world.

      • Elemenope says:

“Muhammad my friend, it’s time to tell the world
We both know it was a girl back in Bethlehem
And on that fateful day when she was crucified
She wore Shiseido Red and we drank tea by her side…”

I’ve always dug the live Tori Amos/Maynard Keenan version. :)

At any rate, I don’t get why girls are so devalued all over the world.

If I had to guess, I’d say it was an artifact of ancient divisions of labor, and the way those types of labor were differently valued.

  3. Rob Jase says:

I sent some cards out that said this a few years ago.

Those who received them somehow stopped sending me cards.

  4. Robster says:

What would they have called the wee baby? Jeesette? Jess-Anne? Yawheete? Boy, this could be fun.

  5. Thin-ice says:

Well, correct me if I’m wrong, but if there were no male contribution to Mary’s pregnancy, then her child would by necessity have two X chromosomes, and her child would HAVE TO BE A FEMALE.

So the cartoon is scientifically correct. Case closed.

  6. Sofia says:

Could someone explain the “joke” to me and/or why this is funny? I don’t get if this is pro-religious or pro-atheist? I know, I know, I know…I’m probably missing something obvious but I’m just not picking up on it.

*Also…I’m athiest, so don’t think I’m being obtuse.

  7. Nox says:

I wouldn’t call it pro-religious or pro-atheist, it’s just having a laugh at a what if in relation to a well known religious scenario.

The “joke” is what if Jesus was a girl. The context of the joke is the oppressively patriarchal history of the religion founded in Jesus’ name and the religion he is said to have been born from, and the fact that most people in that time and place would have summarily rejected the idea of a female messiah.

  8. vasaroti says:

“Christianity may have forged a distinct ethical tradition”
I’m not convinced of that at all. Seems to me if a religion borrows its key ideas from earlier ones, those key ideas would include ethics.

  9. Grandma Julie says:

As the bumper-snicker says, “God Is Coming, And She Is Pissed!”

  10. joe says:

Isn’t the whole middle east in a snit because some woman cop slapped a fruit vendor. I think the guy set himself on fire he was so offended. And these are modern times. I am not saying God couldn’t do it. I just think that would have been a tough sell back in the day.

    • Custador says:

I think that it might be more to do with the three government inspectors who stole his stock and demanded a btibe to return it. Stories of the guy getting hit by a female official do not seem to have any primary source. Personally I think that line is media bullshit which enabled extremely racist news media to make out that the Arab Muslim population were just pissed over a strong woman. Which ignores that Egypt had a far better record in some areas of gender equality than the US.

  11. Mrcartoonster says:

Actually, if Mary had an actual biological virgin birth she would have had a daughter. Due to she would have had the freak ability of having the parthenogenesis ability to conceive without the need of sperm from a male donor. But species that are parthenogenetic and decide the sex of the offspring by XY sex determination system , like us humans, would only be able to produce offspring with two X chromosomes.

I’m thinking She know’s she made a mistake!
