Via Jesus Needs New PR, I see that an old friend is still in business.

Donny Pauling used to grace our comments and forums. I see that he’s still pushing himself as a “former porn producer.” I guess that’s not unlikely, but I have to admit that I’m skeptical. We meet so many “former witches,” “former atheists,” and “former satanists,” that I can’t help suspecting that Donny is just as full of it as all the rest.

I also don’t know why someone would go to a former porn producer for sex advice. That’s like getting cooking tips from someone who used to make plastic food. Of course, it’s no worse than going to the Bible, which was written in a time when the authors still thought that the child’s traits were set by what the mother was looking at during conception (Genesis 30:37-39).

Via James McGrath, I just discovered Jim LePage‘s “Word Bible Designs,” a series of poster art inspired by certain Biblical passages. The artwork is striking, and LePage is willing to be blunt and unsentimental with the harsher aspects of the Bible. Perhaps the most dramatic is this poster about Joshua:

The poster inspired by the book of Judges also has a certain charm:

Christians are notorious for terrible billboards. Here are some of the worst…

1. Anti-God is Anti-American

Impeccable logic…

2. “Well, you did ask for a sign.” -God

Yes, but not another man-made one.

3. The POPE is the ANTI-CHRIST

Free proof? That’s stupid… people dumb enough to believe this would pay money for the “proof.”

4. Judgment Day – May 21, 2011

The Bible guarantees it? I see that worked out well.

5. Christmas starts with baby Jesus ultrasound

Um… baby Jesus had an ultrasound? And he had a physical halo that it picked up? Or maybe this is the 2nd coming of baby Jesus?

6. “We are no longer a Christian nation.”

But they get mad when people “quote mine” the Bible.

7. Atheist: Someone who believes that nothing made everything

Christian: Someone who believes that something must create everything except for the something.

8. Homosexuality is a sin!

But let’s not talk about divorce, gluttony, lying, hate, pride…

Cardinal Sin

The graffiti artist known as Banksy has unveiled a new artwork at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Called “Cardinal Sin,” the sculpture is a response to the Catholic child abuse scandal. It’s a bust of a priest with the face “pixalated” by using kitchen tiles:

The BBC quotes the artist:

“The statue? I guess you could call it a Christmas present. At this time of year it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity – the lies, the corruption, the abuse.”
