A new tarot deck is always exciting, and The Wild Unknown Tarot does not disappoint. I am honored to have the opportunity to explore this new tarot deck, written and illustrated by Kim Krans. Many people come to modern Paganism because of their love and reverence of the natural world. The Wild Unknown Tarot recognizes this fact and celebrates it beautifully. Consequently, this deck is full of inspiring images of flora, fauna, and fantasy.

The beauty of this Tarot deck is that it has something for both beginners to the system, and veteran readers alike. The descriptions in the accompanying guidebook are simple yet profound. The deck is inspired by a quote from folk icon Bob Dylan.

“So I cut of my hair and rode straight away, to the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong.” – Bob Dylan

These are powerful words, a gateway to possibility just like the cards that are born from them. The Wild Unknown Tarot had a long journey before it came to it’s present incarnation. I can honestly say that this is one of the most beautiful decks I own. It comes with a keepsake box, elegant lifting ribbon, 78 full color cards, and detailed guidebook. The book does everything a great tarot book should. It gives you simple words to associate with each card, and then elaborates on the concepts sharing both concrete examples, and inspirational guidance for further study and understanding. Consider Kim Krans’ description of the Empress card:

“The Empress is the mother, or the goddess of the tarot….Her strength comes from being gentle and compassionate, and loving without binding. When this card appears, it’s pointing to either a maternal relationship in your life or the side of yourself that wants to love more. The Empress also suggests it’s time for you to reconnect with nature. Go outside tonight and find the moon. ”

It is clear that the inspiration for this deck comes from a deep and profound place. Krans explains ” I am most inspired by the relationship between the inner and outer world. Some mystics say they are a reflection of one another. The Wild Unknown was created to lead people toward the inner landscape, to open up a conversation about the mystery within. ”

This deck will certainly help you explore mysteries inside and out. I highly recommend it. If you have enjoyed what you read here please remember to share, share, share !
