In the Science Fiction universe there are many archetypes : Captain, Siren, and the Doctor. Doctors in this context very frequently represent science and technology. The proto Sci-Fi doctor was Doctor Frankenstein, from Mary Shelley. This doctor was made famous in his quest to reanimate. In his desperation he tries to make life from an assembly of parts and a little scientific magick in the form of lightning and machines. In a way this character is above and beyond religion taking life and death in his hands. There are many ways the other doctors from the Science fiction television verse also typify this principle. In Battlestar Galactitca we see Doctor Gaius Baltar  fall in love (or lust) with science and the otherworldly cylons. Star Trek (TOS) has Bones, the doctor who is always the scientific voice of reason. There are also many more.

Then we have The Doctor, for fans of the show Doctor Who he needs no description. Or should I say he defies description. Unlike the doctor in Frankenstein, this doctor has the power to regenerate himself. Listen as we discuss the nuances of this character in the following video. What do you think about the Doctor? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
