Duck Dynasty to Leave A&E?

Sounds like that could be the result of talks with A&E after the network put Phil Robertson on hiatus. The Robertson family issued the following statement tonight via their Duck Commander website: We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support.  The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision.  We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word.  While some of Phil’s unfil … [Read more...]

Today is a Good Day to Remember Jackie Robinson

If alive, Jackie Robinson would be celebrating his 94th birthday today. The man who broke baseball's racial barriers has a unique place in the nation's history.Branch Rickey was the baseball executive who signed Robinson. Maybe the chain will now use this sign for their ads. I'll bet there are lots of people unhappy about this, but looks like some bridgebuilding been going on...The story is getting a little play with an analysis of CFA's tax returns showing donations moving away from culture war groups. … [Read more...]

Who Are the Paleo Evangelicals?

Last week, historian Thomas Kidd described a subset of evangelicals who are reluctant Republicans. Inspired by the term paleoconservative, he calls them paleo evangelicals. These evangelicals, according to Kidd, are suspicious of American civil religion, and skeptical that much good comes from allegiance to any political party. Although conservative, paleos do not agree with the modern GOP on all issues. On balance, the GOP may be the party that gets their votes, but they are not enthusiastic … [Read more...]

Barton, Birther featured in Kirk Cameron’s new Monumental movie

Kirk Cameron has a new movie coming out called Monumental. It claims to search American history to find our natural treasure. Cameron interviews a variety of people, most of whom appear on the Christian nation wing of the church, to make his points. As RWW pointed out Friday, Cameron interviews David Barton about the Aitken Bible. Barton, as is typical, takes an interesting story and misleads his audience. You can read Chris Rodda's more accurate rendering of the situation here. I … [Read more...]
