every wordThis is a guest post by my nephew, Josh Sabey, about a fascinating project for Biblical studies.

This project attempts to increase interfaith interaction and cohesion by creating a crowdsourced study Bible. The website works like this: Users may post their own interpretations, as well as videos, music, books, or other resources relevant to a particular passage of scripture. Results may then be filtered by religion, author, medium, and so on.

By crowdsourcing Biblical commentary, everyword seeks to bring people of diverse faiths and perspective together in a common goal and allow them to support one another in the most basic of Christian habits: scripture study. The power of the project, we believe, is just that: Nothing breaks down barriers, fills in trenches, or curbs animosity so well as working side by side towards a common goal.

A project like this could not come at a better time as leaders from diverse faiths are beginning to feel the need to strengthen interfaith ties. In a recent conference concerning the protection of religious freedoms, Dallin H. Oaks said, “Speakers on religious campuses and other gatherings are crossing denominational lines that were insurmountable a few years ago. Religious people are coming to see one another not as adversaries but as fellow worshipers who must unite to protect their freedom.” The need for increased interfaith interaction and cooperation is growing and everyword provides a much-needed avenue to build interfaith communities and share common ground while respecting and allowing for difference.

Josh and Sarah are trying to make the site a reality but they need help. They are running a Kickstarter campaign, and if you know how Kickstarter works, they must raise 5,000 dollars or else the project is abandoned and the money is returned to the donors. Please consider becoming an active interfaith participant by supporting this project (click here to learn more: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1295253479/everyword). They need your help and this is a wonderful opportunity to open doors that have never been opened, to better understand other faiths and to help other faiths better understand our own.
