Russel Peters: Race and Culture

Russel Peters is an Indian stand up comic and he’s got some great material. He discusses race a lot in his shows and the other day my friend and I were watching one of his routines and he started talking about how race and culture are different things. YouTube Preview Image This was very interesting to me because I think I’m exactly the reverse of him. He says he felt like he was Indian until he arrived in India and it struck him just how Canadian he is. Because racially he’s Indian and culturally he’s Canadian. I did not have the experience stepping off the plane in India that he describes. I loved it. I felt instantly at home in India. My parents were afraid there would be culture shock, but instead everything was exactly as I expected. I think perhaps I am racially white and culturally Indian!

    @ Ambaa

You are not full culturally Indian yet acording to Russel Peters, because you have not been beaten by your mum and dad ever, so I think you are missing most important aspect of Indian culture. LOL :)

PS I think you need to watch the full show to fully appreciate what he really saying about being Indian. I just can’t stop laughing. Now I have to go and watch all those shows. :)

      Hahaha. That is mostly true.

I have seen the entire show, but I wanted to link to just the part that I wanted to talk about.
