Watch My Daily Puja

Someone on Youtube, seeing my video of my puja for Mahashivratri, wanted me to do a video of my daily puja. So today I put that together! In the video I mention some resources for putting together your daily puja. One thing was my Puja Cards, which I created and was selling at Etsy. I closed my Etsy shop because I wasn't making enough sales to cover the fees of having listings. So instead I am offering you my Puja Cards digitally and you can download them, print them out, laminate them, and … [Read more...]

Idol Worship (Criticisms of Hinduism Series)

A couple of months ago I wrote a post about reclaiming this phrase "idol worship." I still think that if it's something people accuse us of, it's fair to say: "So what? What's it to you?" However, it turns out that I struck a nerve and a lot of Hindus are very upset at our murti being called idols. They pointed out to me that when someone says idol worship, they mean literally bowing down to the brass, plastic, plaster, or marble that the statue is made from. And for the vast majority of … [Read more...]

PoojaMyself App

What a fantastic idea!I am so impressed with this app idea. This iDevice app not only provides you with a list of US temples and reminders for festivals, it also has step by step instruction for various pujas you can do at home. Smelling the Flowers

When we offer flowers to the Gods during puja, one important element of ettiquette is that we don't smell them ahead of time. The first smell of the flowers is reserved for the Gods.In order to have flowers for pujas, I started growing my own in my areogarden (I LOVE these things)Even though it's so high up, the cat has finally figured out how to get up there and he sits on the flowers and smells them. Sigh.At first I was upset because the Gods are supposed to have the first smell, … [Read more...]

Unfortunately, in the Amazon version it does not come with the audio CD for hearing the pronunciation of the Sanskrit. Another version is available from their website. There is lots of detail about pujas and how to perform each … [Read more...]

Super Simple Daily Puja

Confession: I don't always manage a daily puja.I really want to. That's a priority in my life to get to pujas every day. I want it to always be the first thing I do in the morning. Though I have my puja cards with various pujas for different deities (and it includes a basic 16 steps that can be applied to any God or Goddess), one of the challenges is time. We're busy people and part of what gets in the way of daily puja is thinking of all the other things we have to do in the morning. Do … [Read more...]
