Best Hindu Apps of 2015

I wrote a long time ago about smart phone apps that can support your spirituality but a lot has changed since then so I thought it was time to do it again!Last night I searched for Hindu apps and downloaded a bunch to try. Here is what I found... Wallpapers It started with Shiva Wallpapers by Peaksel (It says 99 cents on Amazon but I'm pretty sure it was free when I went through Google Play Store). As the reviews say there are a lot of ads in this app. They are quite invasive. But it … [Read more...]

Watch My Daily Puja

Someone on Youtube, seeing my video of my puja for Mahashivratri, wanted me to do a video of my daily puja. So today I put that together! In the video I mention some resources for putting together your daily puja. One thing was my Puja Cards, which I created and was selling at Etsy. I closed my Etsy shop because I wasn't making enough sales to cover the fees of having listings. So instead I am offering you my Puja Cards digitally and you can download them, print them out, laminate them, and … [Read more...]

PoojaMyself App

What a fantastic idea!I am so impressed with this app idea. This iDevice app not only provides you with a list of US temples and reminders for festivals, it also has step by step instruction for various pujas you can do at home. You can purchase a little kit too that has all the ingredients you need for the puja you want to perform! They've got pujas for Shiva, Ganesha, and also pujas for a new car or a new house. http://poojamyself.com/Unfortunately for me it requires operating s … [Read more...]

Smelling the Flowers

When we offer flowers to the Gods during puja, one important element of ettiquette is that we don't smell them ahead of time. The first smell of the flowers is reserved for the Gods.In order to have flowers for pujas, I started growing my own in my areogarden (I LOVE these things)Even though it's so high up, the cat has finally figured out how to get up there and he sits on the flowers and smells them. Sigh.At first I was upset because the Gods are supposed to have the first smell, … [Read more...]

A Book For Learning Pujas and Prayers

I discovered this book browsing Amazon and last week I ordered it to see what it's like...I have to tell you, this is a really cool book! It's designed to teach children puja steps and prayers to various Gods, so it is clear and bright and easy to read. Unfortunately, in the Amazon version it does not come with the audio CD for hearing the pronunciation of the Sanskrit. Another version is available from their website. There is lots of detail about pujas and how to perform each … [Read more...]

We Need This!

Saw this on Pinterest: What is it? It's an adorable foam/felt children's "mass kit." In other words, it's a play set for Catholic children to act out the Catholic worship service. How cute is that? Now, I've seen small kid sized thali and puja sets, but have you ever seen a foam or felt one for the real little kids? I totally want one! I may have to make one out of crochet. Can you picture it? Crocheted and felted thali, diyas, etc. … [Read more...]
