Channel 4 in Scotland is broadcasting a 4-part series about Paganism starting Monday July 19th. The programs are entitled “Down The Ages”, “Sex Symbols”, “Living Spirits”, and “Modern Manifestations”.

Title graphic for the program
The Scotsman has already written an article about the show highlighting the fact that the program is hoping to draw viewers by showing the “sexy” bits first.
“In a blatant attempt to draw in the curious, the first episode deals with the sexual rites of the pagans, but don?t expect any gratuitous nudity, unless you count old footage from The Wicker Man and soft-focus shots of indistinct oiled limbs. Rudgley does get up close and into the personal space of some other creatures – hanging out with a pack of wolves and even spending a night howling under a full moon. “
It also looks like the show is going to continue the “Polytheism Good, Monotheism Bad Meme” I have been noticing lately.
“Rudgley takes on the role of a historical investigator, sifting through the evidence to support his argument that our ancestors got a rum deal from the new religion of Christianity. The word “pagan”, he explains, means “country dweller”, but it became a source of insult, hurled by the Christians at those who refused to embrace their faith, preferring to remain attached to their old ways. Wearing skins – which warriors did to draw on the power of the animals – and the act of cremation, were among the practices banned by the Christian Church until the 19th century.”
Whether it’s any good is to be determined, but if any kind Scots want to tape the program or send me a report on what they saw I’d be grateful.
