More Meme
An ongoing trend here is spotting instances of the recent “Polytheism Good” meme that has been making the rounds. It looks like I have found another in author Bennett J. Sims retired bishop of the Episcopal Church’s Atlanta Diocese who according to The Concord Monitor Online makes this assertion in his latest book “Why Bush Must Go”.
“As he retells ancient history, peaceful paganism was supplanted by the Old Testament Israelites with their “violence-prone male dominance.” The result is “a presumed ‘divinely biblical’ blueprint for a predatory modern Israeli takeover of Palestinian lands,” he charges.”
These views are echoed in Jonathan Kirsch’s recent “God Against The Gods” where the mainly sensible pagans of old are overtaken by extremist monotheists. So it looks like we have another entry to the notion that maybe polytheism wasn’t so bad after all.
