More Post-Election Witchvox
Three more political essays up this week at Witchvox one of the only Pagan sites that serves up regular commentary on the world around us. The tone this time around is thoughtful and looking for a way Pagans can act and organize in the coming four years of a President who has been outright hostile to our faiths in the past.
“…the most important thing any of us can do as Pagan Activists is to model our Pagan values. Wear your pentacle [or hammer -ed.] as you go about living your life: when you are volunteering to help with your daughter’s Girl Scout troop or son’s Cub Scout den; when you are working out at your health club; when you are shopping at the grocery store; when you are working at your job each day. At times people will ask you, “What is that symbol? What does it mean?” A simple explanation that it is a religious symbol, that you are Pagan, is often enough to satisfy people’s curiosity. And what is the benefit of this? It is simply that the people you interact with will come away with a new perception of what a Pagan is. Suddenly a Pagan is neither mysterious nor frightening. Suddenly a Pagan is the “cookie mom” for the Girl Scout troop. Suddenly a Witch is the man that they have worked with in the same office for years. Now, suddenly, Paganism has a face and it is a face that they know, trust and respect.” – Heidi Gleber
Also, from elsewhere on the net I liked this post-election affirmation from Pagan poet, activist and author T. Thorn Coyle.
“To you, all of you. Yes, you, too. And especially you. I love you. We will make it through this. We are clever. We will figure something out.We will dance, and fight, and think and make love and scrap and move and practice and grow stronger and…figure out how to adapt. We’ll probably even laugh sometimes. Don’t forget yourself. Ever. Don’t underestimate yourself as a force for evolution. We’re in it for the long haul, baby. Let those short-term thinkers give up. We don’t have to.”
That seems as good a place as any to end this entry.
