Those Poor Christians

What gets me is how conservative Christian groups can claim sweeping victories and “mandates” yet at the same time take on the language of the persecuted. For example this screed against the evils of the left.

“They simply don’t want to acknowledge the unbending secularism that has banned Nativity scenes from town greens, that has taken athletes to court for saying voluntary prayers, the sneering and disparagement towards all forms of organized religion save Wicca.

Yes because wanting the same rights as Christians, and winning a few court cases towards that goal makes us the poster-religion of the “secular left” . I would laugh if I didn’t think there were conservative Christians at home right now nodding their heads and lamenting the “state support for Paganism”.

These commentators are slow to point out that Nativity scenes could stay in public spaces if those public spaces also included representations from other faiths on the same green. What this is all about is that conservative Christians don’t want to share the town greens, they want complete control of it. This creates an all or nothing situation, and in most cases the courts rule for nothing rather than have favoritism towards one faith.

Oh wait, there I go getting nuanced again. A failing of the left I hear.
